Hello, Fellow Boomers,
I have been playing the original boxed version of "Tex Murphy-Overseer". I remember playing it years ago without having any "glitches". NOW, if I want to use the Right Mouse Button to navigate places, the game freezes immediately. I then have to manually shut down my WIN XP computer. I have searched the Internet for a solution to this problem, but to no avail. I understand that even the version of this game from GOG has the same problem. I have gone to many Game forums in search of an answer, but still haven't found a solution for this problem, aside from suggestions that haven't worked for me.
You guys are my last hope, so if any of you have experienced this problem with "OVERSEER", and have "fixed it", I would appreciate your input. Very frustrating! BTW, I'm playing in Win 95 Compatibility mode.

Sandy,

I just installed Overseer (using the DVD rather than the 5 CDs) on my WinXP SP3 system. The special RSX3D sound package was installed but I did not install DirectX as I already have 9.0c installed.
No compatibility mode was checked and the Overseer Config was set for 800x600 for both the game and movies. The game build is 252.

Clicking my right mouse button does not cause any problems. Movement works exactly as it should with the right mouse button.
I don't see any options within the game to adjust mouse control. There are no .ini files in the game directory to adjust mouse settings.

Perhaps you should check your mouse software to see if there are any settings regarding games and acceleration or other functions.

Robert

Seems like if you have this problem you are out of luck.
Someone at the ***GOG forum*** said the problem is related to driver version -- especially recent Nvidia drivers.

The workaround is to use the keyboard for navigation instead of the mouse.

Thanks, Robert and Jenny. I guess I will just keep using the keyboard keys for navigating. The problem is that once in awhile my finger will hit the RMB by accident, causing the game to freeze. The solution is that I just have to be more careful about hitting the RMB. LOL

I'm not surprised that the original CD version is having issues, the game was rather finicky at best. I've only been able to run the (original) game under emulation on modern PC's - but I did just recently purchase the GOG version, which after some minor setup tweaks played perfectly.

You might want to consider getting a copy from GOG. It's the DVD version, so the video sequences are much better.

Thanks, InlandAZ. So far, in spite of the flaw I have mentioned, the game is running well (as long as I don't touch the Right Mouse Button, which happens occasionally). I very well might purchase the GOG version just to experience the difference. BTW, what TWEAKS did you have to make in the GOG version of the game? I have WIN XP.

All I had to do was roll through the various Video options for DVD playback - Xing MPEG II was the one that did it for me. I don't recall what the default was, but it did cause me a few issues.

For the DVD that came with the game package of 5 CDs and 1 DVD, the video setting I use is Standard MPEG2.

Thanks for your info, InlandAZ. I'll remember that if and when I purchase this game from GOG.
