I'm having quite a bit of trouble with this puzzle. I don't even really understand what I'm supposed to do or how to do it. I glanced at a walkthrough and see that it's something to do with weighing the balls, but don't really understand much else about it. How do I even weigh them? By pressing the middle black button, that seems to be the only thing I can press. Maybe I just need a save game. Please help!

Tristy,

The object of the puzzle is to find the 'unique' ball out of the 12 balls shown. You have 3 chances to weigh the balls to find it. You place the balls on the pan and then weigh by pressing the middle button.

A gamer sent me this. It might help you.
SPOILER:

.
I found it easiest to number the balls 1 through 12.
First Weighing
Place balls 1,2,3,4 on pan A and balls 5,6,7,8 on pan B. Weigh.
Second Weighing - when first weighing is balanced
Place balls 1,2,3 on pan A and ball 9,10,11 on pan B. Weigh.
Third Weighing - when first and second weighing are balanced
Place ball 12 on pan A and ball 1 on pan

B. Weigh.
If pan A heavier, ball 12 heavy. If pan A lighter, ball 12 light.

Third Weighing - when first weighing is balanced and second weighing pan A is heavier
Place ball 9 on pan A and ball 10 on pan B. Weigh.
If balanced, ball 11 light. If pan A heavier, ball 10 light. If pan A lighter, ball 9 light.

Third Weighing - when first weighing is balanced and second weighing pan A is lighter
Place ball 9 on pan A and ball 10 on pan B. Weigh.
If balanced, ball 11 heavy. If pan A heavier, ball 9 heavy. If pan A lighter, ball 10 heavy.
(That was the easy part)

Second Weighing - when first weighing pan A is heavier
Place balls 1,2,3,5 on pan A and balls 4,9,10,11 on pan B. Weigh.
Third Weighing - when first weighing pan A is heavier and second weighing is balanced.
Place ball 6 on pan A and ball 7 on pan B. Weigh.
If balanced, ball 8 light. If pan A heavier, ball 7 light. If pan A lighter, ball 6 light.
Third Weighing - when first weighing pan A is heavier and second weighing pan A is heavier.
Place ball 1 in pan A and ball 2 in pan B. Weigh.
If balanced, ball 3 heavy. If pan A heavier, ball 1 heavy. If pan A lighter, ball 2 heavy.
Third Weighing - when first weighing pan A is heavier and second weighing pan A is lighter.
Place ball 4 in pan A and ball 1 in pan B. Weigh.
If balanced, ball 5 light. If pan A heavier, ball 4 heavy. Pan A cannot be lighter.
Second Weighing - when pan A is lighter.
Place balls 1,2,3,5 in pan A and balls 4,9,10,11 in pan B. Weigh.
Third Weighing - when first weighing pan A is lighter and second weighing is balanced.
Place ball 6 in pan A and ball 7 in pan B. Weigh.
If balanced, ball 8 heavy. If pan A heavier, ball 6 heavy. If pan A lighter, ball 7 heavy.
Third Weighing - when first weighing pan A is lighter and second weighing pan A is heavier.
Place ball 4 in pan A and ball 1 in pan B. Weigh.
If balanced, ball 5 heavy. If pan A lighter, ball 4 light. Pan A cannot be heavier.
Third weighing - when first weighing pan A is lighter and second weighing pan A is lighter.
Place ball 1 in pan A and ball 2 in pan B. Weigh.
If balanced, ball 3 light. If pan A heavier, ball 2 light. If pan A lighter, ball 1 light.
(The obvious trick is the second weighing after an unbalanced first weighing.)

Good luck! smile

MaG, I did it a different way...just thought it might help.

I put the first 6 balls on the left side & the other 6 on the right for the first weigh.

Kept the 6 that are heaviest.

Split that into 3 & 3 & weighed again.

Kept the 3 that are heaviest.

Then it's easy. Pick 2 & weigh. If they're the same then it's the ball you didn't weigh. If one is heavier. Viola!

Worked for me anyway. lol

laugh Love, Jen laugh

Thank you so much, Mag and Jen! bravo Thank you, Jen. Oddly enough, I had to press the button twice to weigh the second set, is that how it works? I think I may have been confused on some of my previous tries, thinking the two sides were even, when in fact they weren't necessarily, but rather I just needed to press the button again. Hmm. Anyhoo, thanks again. laugh
