I know there's a partial WT here at GB already LenG's Partial Runaway WT - but not looking - no way. have made it to the museum (which is the demo level for those who have played it) Waiting on the other Runaway players to show up. Actually - I have forgotten what all I did in Chapter 2 Break time

LOL! Guess again, Laura! hahaha I'm still back in the hospital room trying to figure out how to trick the mafia guys! I've been back and forth into the bathroom and that storage room, but I must be missing something. What am I trying to concoct here?
Let's see... have alcohol, syringe, linen sheet, Gina's purse, marker, aaaaaaaa, what else? ????
Geeeeeeeze, you're already in the MUSEUM???? WOW!
Yvonne... hanging back can be a 'strategy' <hehehehe>

Well I went a little crazy. I have been writing on something for days and sent it off this morning - So I am stir crazy and in weekend mode. Yep and it's only Thursday Let's see go back to the store room. There's a bit of a pixel hunt in the left shelves. You need uhmmm 3 things from there. Oh wait I just saw that you have the syringe. So two more, nope wait I can't count three more things. Also need to get "a-head" heh-heh Oh and I didn't read all the instructions but if you double click on a leave arrow - you skip in between stuff of getting to a place. Once you have seen one ledge crawl you have seen them all Laura

Oh and check out things in your inventory - they may have other items. You need to check out the layout, bathroom ... Yep you are missing a bunch of stuff. I am going to stall for a bit. Don't want to get too far in front all by my lonesome. It's cold and dark out there <img border="0" alt=" " title="" src="graemlins/pacify.gif" /> Laura

Hey guys, wait for me!!!!
I just made it into the storeroom--the graphics sure are beautifully clear and sharp on this game, aren't they? Question: are there unlimited saves? I've already collected a whole bag full of stuff...

Hi Ladyyve, That is a BIG bag that the lovely doll was carrying....perhaps it had more than just one or two items in it? Perhaps you need to check again and again..... I really need to get out of this hosp. room, but can't seem to figure out how! Tried setting the sprinklers going...thought I might get a firetruck with a ladder...nope! Can't even wake Gina up! I really think we need to leave, but how?

Also - this game has a consistent method: If you looked at or opened an item before, and then accomplished something else; be sure to look at or open items again . . .

Back - whew. Missed you guys. There is something in the bathroom that you need. Of the medicinal type not the drinking type. Let's see there are 6 items total that you get from the store room. The sprinklers are a good idea - but not yet. You'll know when that time comes. And the game exits you from the room when you are done and into a cut scene. Just got home - so I'll be around for a bit before I get back into the game. Laura

I think you might be missing something from the store room. It's near where you found the syringe I believe. Let's see how to phrase this a "mist-ical" can. The flammable type If you have it - sometime you need to examine stuff in inventory to realize their full uses. If the bad guys haven't made a guest appearance by now then it's not time for the fireworks. Laura

I'd already gotten all the stuff in there, Laura. Finally broke down and read the rest of this thread, which gave me the clue I needed--so now I'm at the Museum...

I am waiting on you. One question - have you had any visitors yet? If so, look at Gina, go look in the bathroom and then come back to the room. Then look at the sprinklers (I know - AGAIN!) It might be that he hasn't thought of the sprinklers yet. I have done some stuff at the museum already. This is terrible - because I remember odd bits from playing the demo last year. Not enough to walk me through chapter 2 - just enough to confuse me. Laura

Ladyyve, you need something flammable to point at the sprinkler so it will start to pour. You should have TWO flammable items in your inventory.

Off to play some more chapter 2. > > > S P O I L E R > > > > > > There's an item labeled "spray bottle" in the storage room on the shelves where you got the pillows, syringe. Look at it in inventory and he'll commet on it being flammable. Then just "use" it one the sprinklers.

Ok, I am at the museum. I have talked to the guy and the lady in the lab...no luck. Seems I need to get in the locked room. Talked to the janitor. He is running a scam? Anyway, HE can get in the room, but won't share the combo. I know that 'X' marks the spot, but I can't find a way in to there either. I can't find anything with the combo for the locked door. HINT please....

OK there are items you can pick up in the lab where the grumpy restoration lady is. Some of these wil come in handy with the coded door. Just needs a good varnish, then later a good dusting. Laura

Well, now I know what to do about 'X' but still no help. Should I go back to the lab, or the locked room? I think I need something for the thingy I found. At the moment I am in the office, but can't find anything to help here. fp

Let's see - the janitor has a side business. He'll give you a card with his number. You should hear a phone call related to his "business" Hmmmmm Maybe if you posed as a customer and called then he would go back and check on inventory..... COurse if you prepared the way - well then ....

Hi Laura, been there and done that. Got in the locked room, and then went to 'X' marks the spot, and found this 'thingy'. But it is at that point that I am stuck! The 'thingy' is empty, and I can't find anything to put in it. Was there something else that I was supposed to do in the 'locked' room? Where should I go from here?

Well I am devising a plan in chapter 3 - so let's see. Have you looked at the thing and tried a button? Also have you been back to your friends office? You'll need something that is in the once locked room. There will be a note underneath it. Check near the door area - where the "thing" is. I love all this cryptic talk You should have an idea of what you need after you try the button. After your friends office search you should have something to "capture" what you need to get an old item out of the "thing" Also be sure and use your crucifix and put it in line with obejects to be cleaned back at the lab. Thanks Laura. I really think I need a white cane here. I did put my crucifix in line and got that weird helper. I pushed the button and know what I need, but just need to find it. I think I will now sleep on it. Perhaps the answer will come in a dream. I wonder if Ladyyve made it to the museum? She has been awfully quiet. FP

You know I bet she is out of the museum - the little scamp OK sleep on it and if nothing comes - I'll check. One spoiler.... > > > > > > > > > > > > >> There is a key that has been cleaned that is lying on a small table/counter top to the left of the voice activated chamber. What you find there will open something in Clive's/your friends office. You'll see what that is - if you decide to get some reading material out of the way. Laura

Ohh this is one part I was glad I played the demo last year. I never forgot this and it is a tough one. Uhmmm there is a theory that if you keep batteries in the fridge they last longer. I remembered it and that's the only reason I worked this out and it still took a long while. A long while... Maybe something where you have to use the recorder might do the same thing.

I just got to work and my copy did not arrive on thursday like it was suppose to. Well that stinks. Maybe it will get there today. My Fed ex tracking showed it as still in Cal 30 minutes before they knocked on my door in ATlanta. So maybe the fed ex site isn't updating correctly. I haven't even gotten back to chapter 3 yet. I want to savor this game. It goes fast when you know what needs to be done. Let's see Flower Power - > > > S P O I L E R > > > If you need the coffee I assume you wrecked her lazer and mask. You need to re-check the Mayan exhibit Get what's there Show it to the janitor take it to the restoration lab use the hand lathe show it to the janitor be sure and check the trash can upstairs just by CLive's office after your coffee gets dissed then you should get coffee Laura

Sorry about that. Too much kid lingo around my place. Dissed is short for being dissmissive. The janitor is quite picky about the style and packaging of what coffee he places in the machine. It has to look and appear to be the same as what he uses. Laura

No problem. This problem involves a lot of baby steps back and forth. You have to find the coffee beans - oops not ground! Grind - take it back - ewwww not the stuff I use ---re-package it and bingo - he'll use it.

She's Ba-a-ack We were about to send out a search party In this game you find things that you can't use until the character has a "need for it". SO far as I have seen if it can be looked at and seems interesting - it'll be used later on. Yep you have more to do. The coffee run around is the next to the last thing practically in this chapter. I am right behind Yvonne...in the museum. I have a question that pertains to the inventory. I seem to be collecting a lot of stuff...should I grab everything and anything that can be picked up...and is there a limit to how much the inventory can hold? I guess what I really want to know is...has anyone come across inventory items for which they have not found a use? I'm getting a little nervous about picking up everything in sight. This game is like a shot in the arm for me...I was getting in a funk where I was losing my enthusiasm for adventure gaming. RUNAWAY has rekindled my love affair! Cynch

Cynch, I'd say pick up everything that isn't nailed down! I'm pretty sure that I remember reading in the manual that you'll use everything sooner or later--and I did notice that a whole bunch of stuff disappeared when I moved from chapter one to chapter two. So I don't think that there will be any problem with how much the inventory will hold.
What I'm wondering--is there a limit on the number of saved games...

It's for sure, you will eventually use everything that you are able to pick up.
As for saves, I had about 24 on the first run through, and am simply adding to them as I play again to write the you-know-what. I am up to 32 saves, with no apparent limit in sight.
I THOROUGHLY enjoyed this great game, but Whew! The you-know-what is a LOT more work to write than usual. Don't know why, it just is.

ARRGGHHH!!! Geez, in this day and age, why do they still make games requiring that one insert disks for play? Especially when they don't put a boot disk on the second and third disks! It is really frustrating to have to load the first disk to boot the game, and then load another disk to play. Help Jenny! Is there anyway to fix this problem? I did the max install, but it still requires that I boot from the first disk, and then use the other disks as the game progresses. I really hate disk swapping! FP

FP, if there is a way to get around that disk swapping, other than installing the whole game on your computer, I don't know what it is. In the case of Runaway, I don't think the entire game is installed, just most of the jpg files. I'm just into Chapter 3, wandering around in the desert, but I haven't had to swap any disks yet. Of course I also haven't accomplished much yet...

Wandered, hung out with the he/shes in the bus, got rid of a studly guard - but looking for oil and it is literally EVERYWHERE. I am missing something. I feel like I rolled around and got lucky through much of chapter 3, I hope like heck I can organize it enough to help anyone else. OK going back and filling in some notes...... Laura

Hi Ladyyeve, I only have the one CD/DVD drive. However, I just got through installing the game on my Virtual PC and making images of all the disks. It is working fine with the images, and very easy to release one image and capture the next, so that is ok. However, I can't seem to copy my game files from my Win 98 division to my Virtual Pc Win 98. I guess I will have to go back and replay the game. I am glad I decided to do this now, before I got too far along in the game. I should be back up to chaper 3 by tomorrow. Sigh.....wish I had checked on this problem before installing the game the first time. Oh well, live and learn. That is what happens when you are in a big hurry to play a game and don't want to copy disks to the hard drive.

i can't believe what i am reading. please tell me this isn't so. nothing ruins a game more than having to start with disc 1 every time first upside down video and now this horror. there goes any chance of the game making my top ten list. upside down video is preferable to this useless disk swapping. i did the full installation so i shouldn't have to worry about this , correct? i hope so much that there is no disk swapping with the full installation otherwise this promising game has just been ruined. i have been wanting this game to come out for so long.

Folks, I don't know how I got around it, except I did the maximum type of install. I have not had to re-start from disk one.
Maybe it has to do with the way you start. Begin with the desktop icon, then press <esc> to get to the load/save/play screen, and load your latest save.
I just tested this process to be sure, and Yes, it works. No swapping.

Tally Ho, Please check by closing Runaway. Then put the second disk into the drive. No other disk. Then click on the icon and see what happens. On my computer, I get a box that says I have the wrong disk in. I never get far enough to click on escape and get the load/save window. I also have a full (max) installation. I looked at the second and third disks, and they only seem to contain data files. Tried to do a complete install by copying the disks but that didn't work either. I ended up installing it in my Virtual PC, and making isoimages of the disks. I can then run it by loading the images instead of the disks.

Zanthia, I just tried mine again--I have the full install, and after starting with disk 1, when I get to the point of clicking on my saved game, it tells me to put in the correct disk. So there doesn't seem to be any way out of it for me.
I'm not as upset as you are, but it is annoying, since I like to play for a little and then quit to check the forums. But I just used alt-tab to get out of the game, and that seems to work fine, so maybe I'll just do that until I'm ready to shut down tonight...

I thought I had to disc swap also - but it was because I was clicking on the chapter pics rather than hitting escape again and going to "load". No disc swapping now.

Laura, I just tried that, but when I click on "load" and then on the picture of my save, that message to insert a different disk comes up...

It occurs to me you might be out of luck. I played a Beta release, and they might have changed something before the final version was sent out. Sorry if I gave everybody false hope.
The best thing you can do is all whine at the company and let them know you are unhappy with the disk-one requirement.
Oh - and the Alt-Tab switch does work fine; even during cutscenes! You won't miss anything, and there seems to be no time limit.

Well gang - I just sat through the end of this game a few seconds ago. WOW - This is one of the best games I have ever played. They need to make a movie out of it. I can't wait for Runaway 2!!!!!
It gets easier after chapter 2 and 3. But the story just gets better and better. So many sly references to other games and movies. Amazing game. I am so happy right now - I think I will just bask in this game for a while. ANy help needed - I'll check back. It really flies in chapter 4,5 and 6. If you can't get something you probably just missed an item when looking around.
WOW I am so.. just giddy - It was soooo darn good. Sigh They don;t make them like this very often.

Hi Ladyvye....I made it to chapter 3 and I'm having fun with these three strange "ladies" in the desert. I'm enjoying listening to Lula's music. Actually, I'm trying to figure out some use for this beat-up basketball I've found in the bus. I'm sure it's needed to get on with the game, but I sure am at a loss to figure out what to do with it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="confused.gif" /> I probably won't be much farther on in the game when you finish working on your computer...you'll probably run into me somewhere out here in the desert. Hi Cynch -
You'll need to improve that basketball.

If you go "look" at Lula outside, you'll make a comment about this him/her. That should give you an idea or really a hint.
I wouldn't get too tied up on any one problem in this chapter - there is so much to do and you can get anything in the plan completed in any order. So if the basketball doesn;t hint anything to you right now - it will later. One hint: Really pixel hunt through the gals trailer - I missed a number of things here and back in that room where I was held captive. Also if you had done enough to get one piece of the puzzle completed - you will always get a hint that really points at what to do next. If you have something and haven't a clue what it is for -set it aside and wait.

Stayed up playing into the wee hours last night and now I'm well into Chap 4. I was sorry to leave those weird "ladies", though...they were fun! Right now I'm trying to fill the water tank of that engine...I've made the long trek to the saloon at least three times and still seem to need more water. Is there someplace closer to get the water? This is VERY tiresome and time-consuming. <img border="0" alt=" " title="" src="graemlins/cry.gif" /> How much water does the darn thing need? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="confused.gif" /> Cynch

Geez, five times! I was beginning to feel like I was Gunga Din, carting all that water...thanks for the tip, Doug--it gave me hope that the job would not be endless. I got through the rest of that chapter and now it's on to Ch 5. Still having fun! Cynch
