I got the email too - but it seemed to describe something more like the procedure Steam uses ?? [Or is that just my paranoia surfacing ] I like how GOG currently handles everything and won't be using the new service.

Well, I like Steam - and I like GOG Galaxy It is much more easy to download a game in one click (while still placing it anywhere you like on your PC) than to download 20 separate files, then to wait for the install etc. The GOG Downloader downloads the game in one file.

The GOG Downloader downloads the game in one file. Yes - thanks for reminding. But that's another TSR without much functionality. Still requires going to GOG site and selecting games there, while Galaxy has them all in its library - and not just for downloading. Achievements as well!..

Good to know. I wondered if I'd be able to use the old downloader. It wasn't given as an option on the website.

Thanks. Did that. Are they going to get rid of the old downloader?

Thanks. Did that. Are they going to get rid of the old downloader? Who knows? They "got rid of" the game bookshelf and the manual sorting of your collection. There's no telling what they'll do.

I've been able to "manually" sort mine for some time, now .... There's a "sort option" just above the top row of your library

Your only choices are alphabetically by titles (which doesn't work well because they don't name consistently) and by the date you bought the games. Manual sorting is gone and so is the "bookshelf" look. I had had my titles all arranged just the way I liked when this happened. So did I. It's all a big mess now.

I know, I am also disappointed that they took the manual sorting away. I had it arranged exactly the way I liked it, and now it's a mess. The Book of Unwritten Tales and Critter Chronicles are both under B, while The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 is under T. The Blackwell series is a complete mess, as none of those games are numbered, so the series is completely out of order. The first games in the series of Black Mirror, Broken Sword, Gabriel Knight and Runaway are all listed as the last games in their series. However Jack Keane and Syberia are fine. I don't like it. Also, I'm not a fan of the new look. I really liked the wooden shelves, and now it's just a lot of light gray space with wooden slots underneath, which is not at all attractive to me. I could even live with the larger boxes if they had the wooden backing, instead of just "hovering in the air" the way they are now. I haven't downloaded Galaxy yet. I may at some point, as I like the idea of games automatically staying up to date. And they do mention there is a way to download a DRM free copy of the games through Galaxy, which is absolutely essential as far as I'm concerned. However, I will wait a bit longer and see how the reception is before trying it out myself. In the meantime, I do hope they bring back the manual sorting to make their site user friendly again.

I can see where that would have confused you. Softporn Adventure (which you can read about here) was released by Sierra Online before the Leisure Suit Larry series. And the woman on the right in the hot tub is Roberta Williams. I guess it was included in the Larry bundle on GOG because the game was supposed to have at least partly inspired the idea for the Larry series.

Yes and the Monkey Island games are nowhere near each other -- even on different pages. You'd think at least that Monkey Island 1 would be near Monkey Island 2, and Tales of Monkey Island is nowhere near either of them. Planetfall is nowhere near the other Infocom games (it came with the Zork Anthology). You can't get the Myst games together -- Riven is nowhere near Myst. Some games are under "T" for "The" instead of the first letter of the 2nd word in the title. Their computer sort is terrible. The filters don't work because games aren't classified properly by genre. They dispensed with the box art too. I can no longer tell at a glance what a game is by the familiar graphics of the box art. I haven't downloaded Galaxy yet. I may at some point, as I like the idea of games automatically staying up to date. And they do mention there is a way to download a DRM free copy of the games through Galaxy, which is absolutely essential as far as I'm concerned. I'm really not interested in another "client" for "managing" games. A client is one more thing that can go wrong. When the Big Fish client stopped working on one of my computers, I was no longer able to download and activate games on that computer. I suppose a reformat "might" solve it, but the computer is set up the way I want in most ways. Also a reformat would kill the activation on some of the games that are installed on it, where a 2nd activation is not possible. However, I will wait a bit longer and see how the reception is before trying it out myself. In the meantime, I do hope they bring back the manual sorting to make their site user friendly again. Manual sorting is the most important thing. Without it there's really no way to browse your collection online -- not unless you mind "disappeared" games that are filed some place remote from where you want them. But the loss of the old-fashioned bookshelf and game boxes is also sad. I don't see why introducing Galaxy had to force the limited and inferior "Galaxy-like" interface on the "My Account" section of the website.
