A watched pot never boils, but it does get paranoid.

`````````````````````````````
A Late Graduation
At the age of 55, I finally got
my bachelor’s degree and set out to
become a substitute teacher. One day, a seventh grader asked if I’d been teaching long.
“Actually, I’m brand-new,” I told him. “I just graduated.”
Looking me up and down, he asked, “How long were you in college?”`
````````````````````````````````

An Army of None

We were an Air Force family, but our son could not grasp that
fact. Anytime someone asked what his father did, he’d say, “He’s in the Army.” I told him umpteen times, “Stop telling people I’m in the Army!” It finally seemed to hit home because on the admittance form
for kindergarten, under “father’s
profession,” the teacher wrote, “He doesn’t know what his father does, but he’s not in the Army.”

`````````````````````````````
Winter Punderland
As we waited for a bus in the frosty weather, the woman next to me mentioned that she makes a lot of mistakes when texting in the cold.
I nodded knowingly. “It’s the early signs of typothermia.”
```````````````````````````

“Where’s Aunt Florence?”

After Thanksgiving dinner, the adults gathered in the living room to exchange reminiscences, while the children went into the family room to play. Suddenly our hostess noticed that an elderly relative was missing. “Where’s Aunt Florence?” she asked.
From across the room came a masculine drawl, “Oh, she’s with the kids, bridging the generation gap.”

```````````````````````
Tollbooth Timer
I worked on a toll road, answering the phone, collecting money and issuing toll tickets. One Thanksgiving Day, a woman called to ask about road conditions on the turnpike. After I said everything was A-okay, she told me a friend was coming for dinner. Then came the stumper. “If my friend just left from exit twelve,” she asked, “what time should I put the turkey in?”
`````````````````````

Holiday Heavyweights

The checkout clerk at the supermarket was unusually cheerful even though it was near closing time. “You must have picked up a ton of groceries today,” a customer said to the checker. “How can you stay so pleasant?”
“We can all count our blessings,” the clerk replied. “The hardest part of this job is the turkeys and the watermelons. I just thank God that Thanksgiving doesn’t come in July.”

`````````````````````
Horn of Plenty
When a music student brought his French horn to my shop for repair, he complained that the instrument “felt stuffy” and he couldn’t blow air through it. It’s not unusual to find partial blockages in brass instruments if small items get lodged in the tubing, but when I tested the instrument, the horn was completely blocked. After much probing and prodding, a small tangerine dropped out of the bell.
“Oh,” said the musician when I handed him the fruit. Seeing the bewildered look on my face, he explained, “My mom used the horn for a cornucopia in a Thanksgiving centerpiece.”
`````````````````````

Like Flower, Like Bud

As I entered the elevator
at our hospital, a disheveled-
looking man rushed in behind me carrying a ceramic blue baby bootie filled with carnations.
I smiled knowingly and asked,
“Does he look like you?”
“I hope not,” he said. “I just deliver flowers.”

```````````````````````````
All jumpy kablumpy today because tomorrow my son, Steven, is taking me to Dallas so I can see my grandson, Bradley, graduate from high school and this is the last one -yippee!!! It's great to see family again but I feel guilty asking son to drive me there but I won't drive is Dallas ugh-ugh. Everybody knows where they're going but me. And the same goes for Austin -they say 100 new people move there every DAY. Hard too believe and Elgin, close to me , is getting the overflow. So sad to see the hinterland go. We'll be heading home Friday after visiting inlaws.
No rain as yet. Yesterday they had 5 helicoptors over Austin looking for victums and survivors. I hope they pick up stranded animals. They say wild animals flee an area of impending danger -wonder if this happened here. I believe this last storm to be the worse I've ever witnessed. Still thinking about it. Many, many years ago we lived in Horseheads New York and Elmira had a hurricane and the dam on the Chemung River broke which became disaster but didn't touch us. Our neighbors' cellars flooded but ours didn't because we had a poured cement cellar and they had cement block cellars. Anyway, people, enjoy peace and quiet even if it gets ho-hum at times.
Now for the good news. Garult of Rivia arrived yesterday to spend some time with meeeeeeeeee yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Good news! My friend/tenant and I sold our FIRST thing on ebay! It was a first edition, Preakness 1073 Kentucky Derby glass. Tw0 weeks to finally get a buyer, but it's sold. Wheeeee! After packaging and mailing, each of us will NET 105 bucks!!!! Easy money. Now to list several more of those glasses and see what happens. Just gotta be patient but the money will roll in (I hope). bravo
Still waiting for the BIG finale of the hoarded, squatted, drug dealing house. Can't put together a good concise report until all the little pieces fall. Hope they don't fall on ME. BUT just a teaser: The water company came just NOW and shut off the water!
WARNING! This person is extremely blonde...please type SLOWLY.
Good afternoon SpaceQ and all wave
The window/door people are so awesome. They are making us a free screen door because Shadow ran through it and bent it. I hope they don't get tired of me. It may not be the last time. grin
Haha SpaceQ! He just does not understand the whole concept of the screen door. I do hope by the time the new one is installed, he will get it!
Hello everybody. wave
My day started off with me oversleeping, so I jumped up sometime after 8ish, had some waffles and loaded Baby and headed for the creek. happydance
It wasn't a great day to hunt the creek. The water was still high and running hard. Never the less I found THIS, and THIS .
Mother Nature has re-imagined the creek. Where there were sand bars, there are no sand bars. Where there were trees, there are no trees. In some cases where there were sand bars, they are now covered by giant trees. shocked
It's all very exciting for a head hunter. woot
What's not so exciting is that the heat is coming back. Some say it's not the heat, it's the humidity.
It is the heat AND the humidity, and it drains me. slapforehead
I came back home and ate lunch, and crashed on the couch. sleep
On the positive side, we had no rain yesterday, no rain last night, and no rain today. bravo
My grass is knee high to the Jolly Green Giant.
I must do something about that. think
Hi all. I've been missing for a few days. I haven't been feeling good and just was quiet for awhile. I'm feeling better now. This was my day off so my timing was OK. I hope you've been having a couple of good days. Sorry I missed the BB pancakes Connie. I'll have some in the morning if there are any left. I'm headed for bed soon. See you guys in the morning.
Midgie hearts
Just do it.
