Jack: Wanna guess what they are?
John: (..oh no..) Well, do I have to...
Jack: Ah c'mon; you only need to find 3 numbers from 1 to 52:
spades 1-13, clubs 14-26, diamonds 27-39, hearts 40-52.
John: Hmmm..ok ok: gimme a clue.
Jack: All 3 numbers can be substituted for x in this equation:
Ax^3 - BCx^2 + DEFx - GHIJ = 0
John: Oh boy...I presume A to J represent the digits 0-9...
and not necessarily in that order!
Jack: You got it! Like DEF could be 602; no leading zero.
John: [after leaving, then coming back with a computer printout]
Hmmm...got 'em narrowed down; do you have a Jack, Jack?
Jack answered and John knew.
