Hi all; I finished RoonSehv; loved it; downloaded the music; liked and recorded it; and now would like to save the game to a disk (For my MYST collection). I apparently don't know how. I find two fairly large RoonSehv files and my computer tells me that both are too big to be saved on my disks. So.. what file or files should I record to disk, and how large of a disk do I need? Is there anything in particular that I need to know? While I have saved lots of pictures. writings, and files to disks, I've never before attempted to save a game.

I would purchase a nice big flash drive - they are fairly cheap and much easier to use than disks.
Are you wanting to save the game installation files so you can install it again if you want? This is what you will need to have as the game will need to actually be installed to create the registry entries needed. I have a RoonSehv setup file in my downloads folder that is 847 MB. If you want to burn this file to a disk, you would need to use a DVD as a CD is only about 700 MB in size.
Saving the game itself as it is installed on your computer will not allow you to reinstall it at a future time.

Draclvr; Yes I would like to save whatever I need to be able to install the game later. I just found some blank disks that claim to have a 4GB capacity, so size isn't a problem (I think!) Are you suggesting that I will need a setup file and another file? I actually found two large files (each in a separate spot) on my computer. Does it matter which order I copy them?
A later thought; Can I just go and download it from the source again, only this time when my computer asks, I'll tell it to "Save" to my disk drive rather than "Run". Would that work?

If you were using a flash drive, yes it would work. I don't believe you can direct a download to a disk - files need to be "burned" there.
What are the two files you are talking about and where are they located?

There are actually three files listed, but only one of some size. There was a separate music file, but I'm done with it and have deleted it. There is a small (4MB) shortcut file; an equally small (4MB) uninstall file; and what is apparently everything else in a file with this address " RoonSehv_v2_FR-ENG-GER-ITA_setup.exe". That file is noted as about 870 MB and is located in a larger file found in " Computer>Gateway (C:)>Users>User> Downloads". Please be aware that I have no idea what any of that means, but I can locate any of the three files again. Do I even need or want all three?

Yup... that's the one. You would need to burn to a DVD or copy to a flash drive that setup.exe file.

Well, that was irksome. I attempted to copy the game three times. I had purchased new Verbatin(Brand)4.7 GB DVD-R disks. It didn't work. Initially I got a flag that said the formatting could not be completed. When I tried again I got a flag that said the disk was "Write Protected." I will probably surrender now. Is it possible that my computer, which runs Windows 7, is simply too old to do this job?

What software are you using for disc burning? I usually use imgburn. http://imgburn.com/Did you get DVD-R or DVD+R?

I bought DVD-R (I assumed that the R was "Re writable" Was that dumb?) I have no idea what software I'm using. I put a disk in the slot; tell it to burn a program to disk; and it does it. It worked flawlessly with my music soundtrack, but not with the game (Different disks.) Where would I find that info?

In Windows 8, if I right click the Roon Sehv file, one of the options is to "sent to" my DVD drive. I also use imgburn.

That's exactly the process I use in my Windows seven. It has worked dozens of times without problem. I fear that the game is/was too large to save to a disk or I bought the wrong kind of disk. I know I have more than enough storage capacity on the disks(4.7 GB) for the game, so either I have the wrong kind of disk (DVD-R); the file is too large for my software; or I have erred somewhere in the process. I have an enjoyable, if small, collection of disks with MYST knockoffs and addenda and I simply wanted to add to it. Ah well, moist brown substance happens.

The built-in Windows disc burning tools never worked right for me. That's why I use imgburn. Much easier to figure out. According to this http://www.indiedb.com/games/roonsehv/downloads/roonsehv-v2-fr-eng-ger-itathe size of the RoonSehv installer is 847.79 MB, so it should easily fit on a DVD. Usually DVD-R are used for movies while DVD+R are used for data. But as far as I know, you can also use DVD-R for data. Unless you have an older drive that only burns to CDR and can't burn to DVD+R or DVD-R, I'm not sure why you'd be getting the error. But as I said I've had too many problems with the built-in Windows disc burning tool to ever use it again. It would keep saving information for every disc I'd ever burned, and try to burn the lot of them to a single disc. I'd have to go exploring and find where it was storing that information, then delete it all manually. If it's doing that for you, it's no wonder it can't fit everything on a single DVD-R.

Jenny100: those problems do sound familiar. However, the big question is if I download the burner you suggested, does it automatically go where it should and do what it does. I can go to the site, find that burner, and hit "Download." That will be about the extent of my technological capability.

the big question is if I download the burner you suggested, does it automatically go where it should and do what it does. I can go to the site, find that burner, and hit "Download." That will be about the extent of my technological capability. You need to install imgburn http://imgburn.com/index.php?act=downloadI'd choose the "Mirror 7" from the imgburn website. Double-click the install file to install. You may be able to "Run" the file instead of downloading, but I don't like doing that. I'd rather get the entire file on my hard drive before installing. Once installed, you start up imgburn, and you should see the EZ-mode picker http://imgburn.com/index.php?act=screenshotsYou'd want the "write files/folders to disc" selection That takes you to the 2nd picture down on that page http://imgburn.com/index.php?act=screenshots"Source" is the file you want to copy. You can do more than one. "Destination" is your drive, which should autodetect. You click the big blue arrow when you're ready to start burning.
