I feel like I'm going crazy... Steam told me that I was signing in with a different computer. I only have one computer. So I tried to follow their directions. It ended up that the suggestion was to "lock my account" which I did. Now I can't unlock it. From then on all has been down hill. I've tried and tried to sign in to their help and it keeps saying that my user name or pass word is incorrect. I follow all the steps and no luck. Am I alone with this problem? Is there any way to contact them for help?... other that their help system that won't let me in..

I so sympathise !!

My last contact with Steam Support was an abysmal failure too - for very similar reasons - and with the same end result of not being able to elicit the help I needed.

I still can't.

So I haven't been back since .... because I can't GET back mad

I guess you didn't understand what locking your account means.
It means you can't get in either.
How would that do you any good?

If someone signs into your account from a different computer, and it wasn't you, that means someone probably hacked your account and possibly that they installed and played games that you bought. All you need to do is change your password to keep them out -- and keep them from changing your password to something you don't know.

If you lock your account, that means you'll be barred from playing your games.
Never, ever do that.
Even if you manage to get through to Steam support, it's well known that they can literally take forever to unlock accounts.
If you Google "locked out of steam account" you'll find a lot of people in your situation.

About all you can do is create a new user account and use that to try to contact Steam support. You'll have to provide proof that you're who you say you are and you'll have to wait wait wait...

I'm not in such a predicament as TRM as I can still access and play the very few games I actually have via Steam.

It's support I can't get - for a game that doesn't work woozy

I do hope TRM finds a way forward yes

All of this certainly isn't a resounding endorsement for Steam. It sounds like Customer Support is a bit lacking.

Theres been an open password exploit the past few days

***RockPaperShotgun article***

From the article...
Quote:
The exploit had let folks take over accounts whose username they knew by abusing the password recovery feature. By saying they’d forgotten the password, they could select the option to send a recovery code to the account’s registered e-mail address – but then skip that step by entering nothing where the code should go.

Why would that even work?
Shouldn't you need the code?
Did no one check that you need the code?

Such a sloppy attitude toward security.
And when your account is stolen, customer support seems to be a matter of luck.

Thanks for all your interest in my problem with Steam. My son helped me to get the proper information for the "unlocking". What complicated mess!!! We looked on the internet too and found all the bad press for Steam. If I ever get a response from Steam support I'll let you know.
I probably will open a new account and never lock it again. I did the locking as it seemed like Steam was suggesting that was what to do. I wonder why Steam didn't suggest changing the password...?

I for one never have and will not go anywhere near Steam. Everything I have ever read says stay far, far away. With that said here is a useful password tool that is valuable for any site requiring a password.

Guess I'm one of the lucky ones. Been on Steam for 8 years now, have a pretty decent sized game library and (knock on wood) have only encountered a couple of issues over that time. smile

I feel a lot more like I do now, then when I first got here

Same here, Trail. I still far prefer GOG, but I can't say I've ever had any major problems with Steam over several years.

Me too. I love Steam. Never had a problem with it and appreciate the wide selection of games and great prices during their sales. They even refund your money if you are not happy with your purchase.

Th e only problem I have had with Steam over the years is 3/4 of the time it doesn't recognize my computer and have to get an email from them with a special password and log in. Other than that I have no issues with them

Are you running something like CCleaner in between which will delete cookies that Steam may have set?

I would have very much appreciated a response like that from Steam, Pokey, but never got support of ANY kind.
[I posted here in April about my problem with them.]

I will continue to play the few games I already have in my library there but should I ever encounter problems with any of them I will be sunk !! frown

Well, I think I've moaned about Steam enough lately so I'll desist for now whistle

Steam's refund policy began fairly recently so your game would not have been affected. Any purchase within 2 weeks and not played more than 2 hours would be. Most people who apply for a refund get it in 1-2 days.

Those pages look like the same ones I tried at the time, Pokey, and I got nowhere.
But thanks, anyway smile
