Just installed this game with Steam and when I try to start, I get the "out of range " message.
As I have had this before and it turns out to be the "refresh rate" the trouble I cant find the "configs folder" to adjust this. Can anyone help?

Which Star Trek game is this?
There are several, some being over 20 years old.

I guess you mean this one then
http://store.steampowered.com/app/203250/

If you press Alt-Enter, are you able to play windowed?

Alternatively, I found this suggestion with a Google search
Quote:
With Steam, most games can be forced to start windowed by Right Clicking the game in the library. Choose Properties. Then click launch option and add this line:
"-windowed" without quotes.

I can't get it to run at windowed mode, it just goes off with "out of range message" I just need to reset the refresh rate to 60hz, I even tried setting it to run at 60hz in launch options

I've never played the game, but if you are looking for a config ini file try looking into the following file path: [Drive Name]:\Steam\steamapps\common\[name of game]

Steam places the vast majority of games in that manner on what ever drive you've selected to hold your game library.

If you don't see the file right away try your search function (using config as the search term) in that folder. There's a chance it might also be an .ini file with the same name of the game as in startrek.ini or something similar. There's usually only a few settings/preference files like that in the folder. If you don't find it there, also try checking the game's folder found in "My Games" (should be named Star Trek or something similar) and see if there are any .ini files there that could be tweaked. Just make sure to make a back up of the files before messing with the settings.

I feel a lot more like I do now, then when I first got here

I have managed to get the game running windowed but I still can't manage to reset refresh rate,
The config files are kept in application data in the users file,They are CFG files but they are encrypted
and I don't know how to open them. It would make sense to adjust frame rate in-game with it running (windowed) but I don't know how

I tried a new svga lead with pin 9 (feedback info) connected and the game still won't run so the trouble is not the lead but the fact pin 9 is connected
