The moon is actually more useful than the sun since the moon gives us light at night when it's dark. The sun only gives us light during the day when it's already bright out.

NICE solve, CCB!

9. Went around announcing rain (4)
wild guess:
went around = missed, sounds like mist (rain) ?

11. Ring presented during short date (5)
cOurt = date; O = ring, curt = short (during = indicator)

I'm a bit confused; are these 2 &Lits:

1. Old "Mr.," perhaps! (5)
5. Devilish inside! (4)

?

Hi Denis,
Yes these are &Lits because in each case the entire clue serves both as direct and as word play.

1.
Direct: An old-fashioned form of "Mr." could be M'lord.
Word play: perhaps is indicator to anagram Old Mr.

5.
Direct: Someone who is devilish inside is evil.
Word play: inside is indicator to find the answer inside the word Devilish.
