The game I am refering to are as follows (Mission Critical) & (Legacy Of Time)
The first one ran for a while and than crashed to the desk top.
The second one Crashed about 1/3 of the way through, I am going to load it in again And see what happens.
The Legacy Of time game seems to be run ok the second time,I will let you know if It crashes again although there is not much you can tell me I guess.I just wanted to find out if anyone else is having the same problem on these old games.
I ran Mission Critical under Windows 98 by booting to DOS mode, and I don't remember it crashing.
Maybe the game is more stable under DOS.
But if you want to try running it in DOS mode, the computer has to be set up for sound in DOS.
Mission Critical will also work in DOSBox, like Robert Gault mentioned.
http://www.dosbox.com/comp_list.php?showID=1468&letter=MI ran Journeyman Project 3 in Windows 98 earlier this year with no crashes. However the game does use QuickTime and may be fussy about which version you have installed. You could try checking the QuickTime settings in Control Panel and see if there's an option for "QuickTime Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode (GDI Only)" in the video options. The Riddle of the Sphinx website used to have a lot of tips on fixing QuickTime problems, and that's one of the things they suggested. Their troubleshooting page is archived
***here*** if you want to check their other QuickTime tips, but they may not apply to all versions of QuickTime.
Be sure to reboot Windows 98 after a game crashes.
Reducing audio and/or video (hardware) acceleration is something that used to be suggested to help stop game crashes in Windows 98.
