I am staring to get annoyed with the pop-up reminder for win-10 EVERYDAY. I do not intend to install win-10 at this time so my question is,can I download it to satisfy MS but not install it?

This site explains how to use the "Windows 10 Media Creation Tool"
http://venturebeat.com/2015/07/29/how-to...windows-update/

In Step 2 there is an option for "Create installation media for another PC." That is not the option he uses as an example, but it is probably the one you want to choose.

The link to download the Media Creation Tool is here
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO

Apparently Microsoft doesn't want you to download through your web browser.

I do not think these apply to me. I do NOT want win-10 at this time. I do not see an option for no installation unless that's what "without windows update" means.
1). I do not want to lose my media center and dvd operations at this time because they are important.
2). If I were to get a very bad virus that required a re-install of windows I would not know how to reload win-10 again without a disk.
Thanks for the effort but I guess I will just put up with the pop-up.

There is a thread here in Glitches on how to eliminate the popup. You will need to remove a specific update and the popup will go away.

Let me see if I can find it. In the meantime, see if this link helps...

Before you take the time to find that,it is not the notification icon in the system tray(task bar) that's annoying, it is the reminder pop-up that appears on the desktop every time I start the computer.
I noticed in the link that under step 2 you can delay installation. I don't know what kind of delay times are offered. Is it days, weeks, months? If I could delay it for say a year, that would work for me.

But it is the icon in the system tray that is CAUSING the popup when you start the computer. You can delay or you can remove the update they talk about further down.

You have 1 year to install the update for free. But it's up to you whether to do it or not.

This is the post - I don't remember which page, but Jenny has a link on getting rid or hiding that update. I've done it on a couple of computers.

I think you did not bother to read very far into my post.

You asked about how to download Windows 10.
You do that by using Step 1 in the link, and in Step 2 you choosing "Create installation media for another PC" instead of the option he chose in the example.

How to disable the nag icon is a separate operation that has been addressed in this forum several times already.

Here is a copy/paste from this previous Gameboomers thread

On some computers it appears as a "Recommended" update and will install through automatic updates without asking you if you want to update or not. It snuck in on my Windows 7 computer as a "Recommended" update, like a Security update. But on my Windows 8.1 computer it was listed as "Optional." But the reverse can also happen, with it being "Optional on Windows 7 and "Recommended" on Windows 8.1.

We had more discussion on update KB3035583 and how to remove it in the other Windows 10 thread
http://www.gameboomers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/1016941/2

The steps for removal are
1. Check to see if KB3035583 was installed on your computer, and uninstall it if it's there
2. Run Windows Update manually and hide KB3035583

1. To see if Microsoft snuck in KB3035583 through your Windows updates, go to the "Programs" in Control Panel (where you go to uninstall programs) and choose "View update history."
If you need more specific instructions, the Sevenforums website has instructions ***here***.
If you see KB3035583 in your list of uninstalled updates, you can uninstall it from there.

2. However it will reappear in your Windows updates. So to prevent it installing again, you have to (temporarily) disable Windows update, then manually run Windows Update (use the Start search to find Windows update). Then check Recommended and Optional updates to find KB3035583.
You right-click it and choose "Hide update." Step 3 in the Sevenforums webpate ***here*** shows how to hide updates.

It can be hard to find KB3035583 in the long list of updates, but you can put them in numerical order by clicking where it says "Name" near the top of the list of updates. However they will still be in separate sections, so you must search all the sections.

Ok,I got it. I did not know what- "Create installation media for another PC" meant. I first thought why would I be worried about another pc right now and sort of ignored it.

Yes, that's what Microsoft calls it -- instead of "save installation files for later" -- because they just can't imagine why anyone would want to delay installing Windows 10 on their main computer as soon as possible. The important part is "Create installation media" which means burn a Windows 10 DVD.

Yes, I do, Winfrey. I don't know that I like it that much better than Windows 8, but I am so relieved to have the horrid charms bar on the right gone. I hardly ever went to the Start screen anyway. It seems to be kinda/sorta be more like Windows 7 than Windows 8.

My Son in Law (who builds and looks after my computers) is still "experimenting" with Win10 and so far he is of the opinion that it's better than Win8 but not as good as Win7 laugh

I've been running it for quite some time now (in beta) - but only as a Virtual Machine. I'm not overly impressed so far, but you never know... I may install it sometime in the future.
