Dark Side genres such as RPG's are known for being heavily immersive allowing for all sorts of creative outlets such as cosplay, related board and pen and paper games, associated merchandise and sometimes even consumables for those that enjoy those styles of gameplay.

So, as we head into a holiday weekend with some potential gaming time on our hands I thought it would be kind of fun to list out the special stuff we might do or use to get into the mood of a particular game.

I'll give you a few examples of what I've done in the past:

~When playing Mass Effect, I have an N7 baseball cap much like Joker's that I would occasionally wear, much to the amusement of my girlfriend, while playing the game.

~While I was still a beer drinker, it wouldn't be unusual for me to have a good strong ale while playing one of the classic old RPG's, especially if a particular segment involved an inn or tavern.

~If note taking is required for a more complex game I like to use a specific writing implement and usually a parchment simulating paper or something appropriate to the style of the game setting.

So, what about you?

If I'm going to REALLY get into a session, I make sure I am alone and there are no distractions - usually that's after hubby goes to bed. I might get a beer or a glass of wine. But once I'm immersed into the game, it just sits there and if I remember it's there, the wine is full of fruit flies or the beer is totally warm!

I especially like your baseball cap that was like Joker's in Mass Effect! I need to get back into Mass Effect 2!

I have to be totally focussed or I end up dead very soon
So no eats or drinks on my desk.
Especially no drinks.
In my feverish attempts at combat a drink could absolutely get knocked flying !!

At times I find myself wondering if I could just quietly fade into the shadows and steal that shiny bauble instead of paying for it...

Speaking of Mass Effect, I have just started my play through of the entire saga, never having played ME3 before.

I'm up early every morning so I like to start play early in the morning like 4 or 4:30AM when it's quiet and my mind is clear. Monday morning will be perfect!

We've been playing a lot of board games with the family. I always talk like my character which is hysterical as I can't do sound effects or accents, but makes the games more fun.

Last night in Diablo 3 I just had to transmog a helmet that horrified me at the exit screen even though I can't see it while playing cos my Crusader would never wear a skull helmet.

I used to amuse my sister by sending her emails that read like, "Well, today I saved the kingdom by fighting off the evil cadre that wanted to overthrow my rule."
