The bottom of my mouse was dirty and I thought I would clean it.I turned off the computer sprayed some windex on a paper towel and rubbed the mouse on the paper towel. I didn't want to spray the mouse directly so I thought this was a better way. The mouse was super clean! I turned the computer back on and the mouse was kaput!
I didn't think it could get wet doing it this way but I must have been wrong.Any better ideas to clean a mouse?

What type and brand of mouse are you using Geo?

Personally, I use optical or laser gaming mice and clean mine with a little isopropyl alcohol on a cotton flour sack cloth. The optical element is recessed on the ones I use, so aren't impacted by wiping off the bottom of the mouse.

I feel a lot more like I do now, then when I first got here

Its an optical mouse. The brand has long worn off.

Can't say I've ever seen that happen - I do it to my mice all the time. I assume it's wireless - did you try to pair it again?

I don't know what pair it means, but it was an inexpensive mouse so I am not worried about fixing it. I am just trying to pass on a method that didn't work,at least for me. I'll tell you its a weird feeling when every icon on the desktop is dead when you click on it.At first I thought the whole computer was shot until I put 2 and 2 together and remembered I was just cleaning the mouse.

My mouse is absolutely ancient. A Microsoft Intellimouse from 1998 !!
[And a I have another two in my "spares" cupboard, in case of breakdowns snicker]

So it's easy to keep the outside of it clean. I just use a damp cloth all over - except for the little roller ball underneath.

Optical is just amazing after using the old slow mechanical roller balls.

I'm using a Logitech Trackball from the late 1990's.
Still the best trackball I've found.
Wish they still sold them.

I can't stand having to keep picking up a mouse because it went off the edge of the desk or knocked into the keyboard.

Nope. Just trying to move the cursor around the screen.
I don't have a huge desk with unlimited space to move the mouse around.

A trackball can stay put in one spot, unlike a mouse.

I tried to use my grandson's trackball, but my brain simply refused to cooperate! I only have a 9" x 10" space for my mouse next to my keyboard. Not much, but I guess I'm used to it.

I've tried other mouse types, Geo, including one or two Opticals, but I didn't like them.
They felt too "bulky" whistle

I like my ancient little mouse.
And it does everything I need a mouse to do yes

LOL!!
9" x 10" would be huge.
I have less than 4" x 7" to the right of my keyboard.
Try maneuvering a mouse in that.

The mouse will squeak if left in a drawer without cheese, making it easy to find.
