It doesn't give us much to go on, but for anyone interested, it can be viewed here. It's a short video showing Labyrinth of Lies on their old game engine and then trying to give an idea of how it would look on Unity. They are not re-doing Labyrinth of Lies, of course; they are only using this game for comparison purposes.

Her Interactive has this to say about the video:

Quote:
Please keep in mind that this is a port to Unity and that Nancy Drew: Labyrinth of Lies was not built in Unity. The intent of this video is to just give you a quick snapshot of what a Nancy Drew game might look like in Unity. Nancy Drew: Midnight in Salem will be of much higher quality because it will be built using Unity and not our old game engine.

I could be all wrong about this, but to me it's looking like a game with the new Unity engine might involve the mouse and the keyboard. Feel free to weigh in with your thoughts.

I couldn't finish watching the Unity engine section, it made me nauseous. I think it's a keyboard/mouse as well.

Thanks for sharing Marian.

I was afraid that the motion-sickness factor may well come into play here (for those who are sensitive to this kind of movement).

Her Interactive did post this in response to a complaint about motion sickness:

Quote:
The movement issues will not be present in Midnight in Salem.

I agree, looks like keyboard to me. If it is, I would also prefer the current game engine.

There is a huge difference between the normal engine and the unity engine. I can see where the movement using the unity engine could make you dizzy! I found the movement made the scene blurry as you moved. It makes it easy to get turned around and loose your sense of direction which also adds to that "spinning sensation". It will take some getting used to playing with this unity engine that's for sure.

I don't get motion sickness so watching this wasn't a problem. But it was only a short excerpt; I don't know how I'd feel after a half hour of play.

What does concern me is that it possibly uses the keyboard? If so they've just lost one loyal follower. I wouldn't even bother to try the game.

I didn't care for it either. I have to agree with meryl and Winfrey.

Wow! That was terribly jerky.
They're going to have to do some serious optimization to get it running anything close to smooth.
...and when you consider they're probably using a computer with higher specs than most of their customers have...
Even people who don't normally get sick in games with 3D movement will get sick with this.
It's not just that it's Unity, it's that it's an incredibly bad example of it.

And yes, Unity is not a point-and-click game engine.
It may use mouse in combination with keyboard, but that's not the same as point-and-click.

All that jerky movement hurt my eyes & gave me a headache. I'm not sure if I'm interested in buying anymore ND games, which is a shame. I love the old way of moving around & the original voice of Nancy. Stop trying to fix what isn't broken.

I hear you judith. Sometimes "new and improved" is not always improved!

I haven't played any ND games, so I don't really have an opinion about it beeing better or worse.
I'm guessing the want the game to feel more alive? No pointers and the sound and movement of shoes will of course make it feel more like you're there. But there are som many of that type of game, it's almost cool with the before-look. At least I think so. Why do they all have to look the same?

I just realized that I actually did have an opinion, haha. lol

I have to go with most others here -- I like the original engine much better - and I do not care for any adventure game that is keyboard controlled. Also - I did not see any cursor or anything to indicate that an action could be performed, unless it was just a demo to show movement ??

Put the improvements in the game itself, less chores, and more story related puzzles.
