I'm downloading a 12GB game from GOG using the GOG Galaxy. In 9 hours only 3 GB's downloaded. I know I can pause the download but can I also shut my computer down and then resume the download tomorrow night? I'd rather not leave the computer on while I go to work but I will if I have to.

Thanks.

I believe so.
Galaxy should resume the download when you restart it, whether you turned off the computer in between or not.

oldbroad,

If you have a library near you with broadband connected computers, you could have an alternative way to get such large files.
Buy a USB memory card. 16GB USB2 units are selling in my area. Connect the device to an external USB slot on a library computer. Use that computer's broadband connection to download your game in maybe 15-20 minutes. Unplug the memory device, go home, plug the device into your computer, and transfer the game.

Robert

Thanks Jenny. I may just leave it on and be done with it but not sure yet.

Robert, there really aren't any libraries around me that I wouldn't have to take a couple of bus rides to get to but thank you for that idea. I didn't realize the download was that big. Would have started it Friday night but there were heavy storms in the area so I wanted to leave the computer off.

Also wondering, the Ethernet cable that is hooked up is way longer than I need and has quite a bit of coil in it. Could this be part of the reason for the slowness? At one time I used to get 1GB downloaded in and hour to an hour and a half. That was with the other computer and a shorter cable and from Big Fish. A couple of weeks ago I downloaded some games from Steam on this computer with the long cable and I think that went at about 1GB in 2 hours. Maybe it is just GOG that is slow!

Huh! When I went to bed 6 hours ago it was not quite at 50%. When I got up 40 minutes ago it was at 86% or something like that. Now it is finished?? I hope it all installed correctly! Still wondering:

Download speeds can vary a lot.
The server you were downloading the game from could be busy, especially if the game is a popular new release.
Your ISP may also be throttling large downloads to certain websites.

The length of the cable the cable company gives you wouldn't matter enough for you to see a difference. They wouldn't have installed something so long that it would cause a technical problem (length limit is usually stated as 100 meters), and electrical signals move around the speed of light. Also, if there were something wrong with the cable, you wouldn't have seen the difference in speed that you did between when you first started downloading and more recently.

Thanks Jenny100!

I don't have a cable company. I bought the Ethernet cable at Amazon a few years ago.
