Just started Uru/Dni & don't remember very well the locations & actions in Uru-Prime which I finished quite a while ago.

I now only got up to the following (completely) but need amplification &/or clarification of the GB walkthru paragraph below :-

(Also I find/found the 'definitions/terminology' of "Nexus", "Relto", "KI", etc. a bit vague !) eek

T I A ! help laugh

the room above the control room in Teledahn.

I'll try Len until a URU expert comes around:

Relto - is your own island that you can go to with your linking book at bottom left. Here is where your other linking books are found in the hut.

Nexus - I can't remember the color od description of this linking book. It is the place that functions as a terminal. It is just one room and you insert your hand on the mailbox thing and see a selection of places to go to mostly in the City (ex: ferry, etc.)

KI - this is the item you get at Gahreesen. You can take pictures with it, later use as locator for markers, etc. Usually seen in zoom mode at top left of screen.

The Baron's Office - Just for you to recall in the previous URU game - you rode up the bucket in Teledahn. You arrive on top of the tall building. You rode the elevator to the top. You did a puzzle with the aquarium and found a linking book. This linked to the Baron's office on top of this building. You get a page here so you can link back here easily from your private island-Relto.

Hope that clarifies some things. smile

To continue with what Marita has said, Len. The Nexus book is brownish--one of the ones to the right of the Age books. Be sure to stick your KI underneath any of the books on stands that you find as you go through the City--that will put a page for that location in your City book. Do you remember how to do that.... think

Ask away, we're here--and there are quite a few old threads with lots of information about To D'ni also...

Len, there's an Uru glossary in PDF format at the Guild of Greeters website that might help you out also.

I thought I was maybe unusually dim, but on downloading that Uru-glossary (that you helpfully recommended) I see that there are somewhere around 100 'definitions'.

I suppose that they wouldn't have posted a large list like that unless others apart from me also got confused with terminology !??! eek

Len, check your last journey cloth to see if it takes you to either the room where the buckets dump you or to the room you are in when you go up the elevator. If you don't have one of those two, you'll have to ride the buckets again. After you get dumped out, here's a quote of what to do from one of the Prime walkthroughs: SPOILER

Now walk to the elevator and press the blue button. The blue button makes the elevator go up and the yellow button makes it go down. This will take you to the top floor. This room has another telescope, windows you can open by operating a lever by one of them, books and papers you should read, a bed and a fish tank. Copy the diagram with the numbered squares in D'ni from 1 to 7. You will need it to solve the pressure plate puzzle. There is also the third Journey Cloth which you should activate. Behind the crate, next to the bed is the first of the Relto pages. Touch it to append it to your book. This page allows you to customize the roof of the Hut in Relto. (Thanks to Mark for the information).

Anyway, you should now go to the fish tank, and press the top button by the red light for three seconds. A panel slides down and a linking book appears.Touch the picture to link to a room with two divisions...

Thanks Jenny.

When I click on the Teledahn (orange colored) book in Relto (I assume ?), the 1st page is ONE cloth, and the following 3 pages are graphics linking to different places.

The cloth takes me to a darkish sort of corridor where you can access that device for shooting down rocks & another (at least one) location.

It's after 2:00 am here (July 1st) ... will try to get my bearings tomorrow.

Goodnight ... and thanks again ! praise

There is only one journey cloth in each age, Len, and they save one on top of each other, so all you can access is the last one you made.

Looks as though you will have to open the Age book, click on the picture of the hut and go outside and ride the buckets again... slapforehead

Exactly how does one aquire To D'ni? Have played Ages Beyond Myst and removed it once finished. Do I need to re-install it and play again? Also if it is only available by download, what do I need to do?

Today is the tomorrow you were worried about yesterday.

This is what Lasanidine stated:
Uru the prime, XPack1.
1. You have to have Uru prime installed on your HD to be able to install the XPack
2. You do not have to have a finished prime game to play the extension pack but it is easier to play it if your prime game is finished
3. There is a saved game folder in you Uru directory called <b>sav</b>. If you saved that and uninstalled the game you can install it and put sav folder into the game directory
4. The XPack will start you in the desert and you have to make it into your Rleto again.
5.The fist XP is free, the second one is due out at the end of June and you will have to pay for that.:)

Dhart, you will have to reinstall URU in order to play To D'ni, but you don't need to worry about downloading it if you don't want to. A second expansion pack, called Path of the Shell, is due to come out in about a week, and it will include a CD of To D'ni...

I only seem to remember maybe TWO games I have given up for a total loss … out of goodness knows how many.

Uru-to-Dni seems all set to becoming another !
I think that many Boomers were involved in different stages of beta-testing, and I hope my general (buggy) assessment on the main Discussion is not offensive.

I got right through & completed the whole of Uru-Prime and made a proper full save at the end.
When I insert this save into Uru/Dni it seems to “fit” 100% & tally completely with the GB Uru/Dni walkthru.

I understand from the walkthru that my next move is to reach the "Baron's Office" (O.K. ..... not that I remember this from URU-Prime, or even what it looks like when/if I ever reach there ! eek )

It seems to indicate that I can arrive there either …………..

** (A) You can link there directly via the link page on the Ae'gura. book (Brown book with stylized tree … 7th book from the left) OR **** (B) via the Teledahn Book (Orange color … 3rd book from the left ).

** (A) Seems out of the question at present since I have so far ONLY obtained the very first 2 linking pages.

**** (B) I think that I COMPLETELY finished Uru-Prime and started Uru/Dni from the FINAL Uru-Prime save .
When I access this Teledahn Book, there is ONE CLOTH (and I’m fairly certain that this was the LAST one superimposed from Uru-Prime) and afterwards 2 or maybe 3 Linking-Pages.

Using EITHER the cloth or the 1st linking page (the “hut”) I can easily get the machinery going, all possible levers pulled etc. I’ve done this a dozen times. On some occasions the 2 buckets are stationary and will not move at all. By ‘fiddling’ I can get the buckets moving BUT no amount or type of lever pulling will get EITHER bucket to stop at the bottom or anywhere else. I have pulled levers when the buckets are in pretty well every position(s) possible ---> Nada ! mad

I vaguely remember doing this in Uru-Prime and seem to remember succeeding on the 3rd or 4th try.

Unless somebody can instruct me as to how to reach the "Baron's Office", I reckon I’ve wasted more than enough time already … which maybe (partly at any rate) is at least one of the reasons why Uru-Live had to be abandoned ???

Len-Since you have completed Prime, you should have everything you need to go to the office (whether you call it "Sharpers" or the "Barons"). I am not sure why you dont have all the pages in your Brown book but at the moment we will just go to Teledahn. I assume the power is still running so you just exit the hut and ride up the elevator to the bedroom, and look at the fishtank. You should see the linking book to the office there, since you already opened this in Prime. You may recall there are two rooms inthe office-one has three large paintings and the second room a large desk and a window with a view of the city.

Len, my memory is a little fuzzy on this, but if the power is running, when you come out of the door to the hut and go down the short walkway to the main path (the one that runs in a circle around the hut), isn't there a button to call the elevator...

Hi Len,
I looked at the WT and no it doesnt' really give specific pages in your books of links to use.

You say you are using your save from Uru Prime, so I am assuming that most of the links should be in your books and all the things turned on or completed as you left them.

For me the link to the Baron's Office is in the fat Brown book(7th from the left). It is the FIRST link in the book. The linking picture: has a linking book on a pedestal to the left in a round foyer with mosaic floor of greenish and brown. Towards the upper right is a round door opening, and further in the background you can see a desk with a candle to the left of it.

Or, if the machinery is running in Teledahn and you already did the buckets in Prime then you should be able to simply link to the hut from the orange book, go to the elevator straight out of the hut, and push the blue button in the elevator TWICE to get to the top floor with the aquarium in it. Then link from the book in the aquarium to the Baron's Office.

I went and linked to Teledahn to see what the buckets were doing for me, and they won't even come down pulling the lever where you originally jump into them. I guess I left something in the control room closed or locked so they won't come down anymore, but no problem, just use the elevator to get up to the control room or the aquarium room.

PS: actually the link to the Baron's office is the second link for me in the brown book, but that is only cuz I added a link before it further on in Uru to D'ni. I'm almost finished with Uru to D'ni now. But if I was at the stage you are at it would be on the first page.

Hope this helps. smile

EDIT: Oops, after I posted this it took me to the second page of this thread. hehe, I didn't notice before when I was replying there WAS a second page. You should be well on your way now Len.
Sassy

LenG, Getting the city opened up is a puzzle in itself. This does not sound like you have a bug. You need to find the spyroom through Teledahn (Mushroom Age) AFTER finishing Teledahn the first time.

I don't know which office was "barron's office."

Sharper's journal mentions a book he had hidden in the additional pages. It leads to his "spyroom."

AFTER finishing Teledahn, link back to the last journey cloth (touch one near the end door if you have touched another since then) and walk back to the prison area. Flip one lever and the gates near the levers will close. You will see the hidden book. Link to your Relto. Link back to the last Journey cloth again. Walk back to the book. This is the link to the spyroom that starts "to D'ni" in earnest.

There's a link in the spyroom to Phil's personal Relto and a code you should note through a the telescope.

Go to Phil's Relto. Make sure you link into the cavern city using Phil's book to the cavern and touch a KI thing when there so you can get back anytime.

Use the code you saw on the lights in Phil's neighborhood and find the room this unlocks. (It will be straight ahead) THEN you can get all around the city using the stones inside.

Best Wishes on your quest!

Susan wave

I have been over every angle possible I think many times … am becoming an ‘expert’.

Many thanks to the several who have helped !
Below are some pretty thoroughly tested conclusions for anybody who gets similarly stuck (… but no 100% guarantee).

You CAN indeed reach the so called Baron’s Office from your Relto by either of TWO ways ………… EITHER using the 7th book from the left. (numbers clearer than names IMO !) OR using the 3rd book from the left.

(A) If you follow the GB URU/Dni walkthru “4. Ae’gura” accurately you should arrive OK.
I missed one step and couldn’t get there. This led me to believe erroneously that this route couldn’t succeed so early on !

(B) There are some factors to be aware of :- The machinery must be working of course. Even if it is, the ‘correct’ shaft(s) must be turning (correct levers pulled/pushed). Otherwise the elevator will not operate ! Maybe something else ?

I have tried MANY times to ride up a bucket … as I did in Uru-Prime (with a little difficulty but not much!). AFAIK this is impossible. In the vast majority of cases the buckets are stationary and won’t move whatever you do and whatever levers you pull &/or push(I agree with Sassy).

However it IS possible to get the 2 buckets moving properly … I’ve done it 3 or 4 times, but not sure exactly how !?! But it doesn’t matter since it seems to be a waste of time anyway. When they are moving there appears to be no possible way of stopping them (using the side lever in any orientation or not) as there was in Uru-Prime. So there is no way to get in and hitch a ride up !!

AFAIK, the elevator works after you disengage the locks on the level where the bucket comes in. (Its a foot pedal near the elevator) After that you dont need to use the buckets anymore. Those levers control the buckets, the mahole lock, and the water level below the hut where you first link in to the Age.

Once you have turned the Mushroom Age on (Teledahn) you dont need to go back and use the other equipment again.

Getting to the spyroom involves getting through the prisons once, knocking that one walkway flat (use lever, jump at it, use lever again) getting a linking cloth near the end. (the rest of the movements are listed above)

Are you sure the above is correct … I seem to have come across very different observations.

(1) In Uru/Dni (or at least the early part which is all I have done so far) the buckets are useless. They are either permanently stationary; or permanently looping with no method of stopping them & jumping in.

(2) I looked for quite a long time all around & near to the elevator and could not find any controlling foot pedal ... maybe I missed it ?!

(3) Quite a way away from the elevator, on the platform where the antenna etc. resides, are 3 large levers which control 3 huge shafts … one is broken so you can only operate 2.
One of these shafts goes into the far wall in the direction of the elevator (you can’t see it). If the shaft is rotating, the yellow (down) & blue (up) buttons are lit and when clicked operate the elevator.
If however the relevant lever has been activated and the shaft stops rotating, the yellow & blue buttons are not lit and the elevator cannot work.

Len, you are right that those two levers have to be thrown for the elevator and buckets to work. I don't know what the third one, the broken one, was supposed to control, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

The foot pedal lock that Susan was talking about is in the room where the buckets dump you out. When you first go over to the elevator it won't work--down on the floor on the right hand side is a place where you get a "use" icon--that's the lock, and all you have to do it click on it to release it. After that the elevator will work as long as the power is on.

I'm really confused about your problem with the buckets, Len--I have ridden them several times in To D'ni. Took me a couple of tries to get the bucket to stop in the right place, but after a few miscues I didn't have any problem at all. Unfortunately, the way the saves work in URU, there isn't any way that I can look at your game and see what the trouble is. Oh well, I'm just glad it's something that you don't absolutely have to do!!!

Just as a hint, any time you go into an area, be sure to insert your KI into any Nexus books that you find--that way you will have all of the linking pages you need. I believe the one to Baron's office is the second one in one of those two books you mentioned--right after the picture of the beginning of the Age...
