Hello dark side friends Its been a while since I had time to indulge my FPS persona and am looking for a recent recommendation. While I can enjoy many things, right now I am looking for something very straight forward - no power ups, no plasmids, no companions, no fancy keyboard moves etc. Just me and a variety of weapons. Like Fallout 3 and Half LIfe 2. I could wait for Fallout 4 but looking to get stuck in now. Many thanks

Have you played any of the Borderlands franchise? Even though it has a multi-player element, there is a ton of gameplay from the single player campaigns if you are just looking for a shoot and run style game. Great sense of humor in the game and DLC as well. My favorite is still the first game, I always smile when I hear the opening tune by Cage the Elephant, "Ain't no Rest for the Wicked", it fits the feel of the game perfectly. I can't remember if I put that on my list of favorites, if I didn't I should have. Borderlands Opening I also enjoyed Crysis, but it does have some more complex controls, even so, it's well organized. There's also Far Cry 3 and 4. Far Cry 4 is pretty amazing, it has a multiplayer element, but the single player campaigns are extensive. In case you've never seen it, this is one of my favorite promo's, it's for a Borderlands 2 expansion. Cracks me up every time. Meat Bicycle Built for Two Have I mentioned that I like Borderlands?

One of my favorites for a straight shooter is Prey. The weapons are the coolest weapons in a game!

Thanks all. Haven't played Borderlands or any of the Far Cry, so will try those. Prey I agree had some cool weapons draclvr and I started but gor side tracked with Crysis a while back so should still have that around somewhere. I seem to remember I was finding it almost impossible to fly a vehicle down a canyon?

That might have been in Crysis 2, I don't remember navigating a ship in the first one. Although my memory isn't what it use to be! I agree with mj2c, the first three Far Cry games are worth it as well. They can be challenging, but are definitely classic FPS games. There's also tons of walkthroughs out there on the first three in case you get into issues. Same for Crysis.

How about the Killzone series? KZ1 is a PS2 game. 2 and 3 are PS3 and 4 is PS4. In all the games I've played KZ2 is my favorite. And --if you want some laughs fun and airplane shooting, try Snoopy vs the Red Baron -however it's on PS2. Alot of shooters now have too much walkin' and talkin'. Oh yes, the Wolfenstein games are good too and Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare is shooting with variations. Real fun game.

Hi Drac, Garden Warfare is a shooter not the usual strategy P vs Z games and you have to subscribe to play station plus to play even as single player. That was the only con and for me it is a remarkeable game. Single player is too difficult for me so I play with a group which took a bit of adjusting but worth it. Also it's better to play when the kiddos are in school. Garden Warfare 2 is out now -I don't have it.
If you get GW1, I am morganstern -just a tidbit

Curses! I really would like to play this one, but I don't have a Play Station, nor do I want to do coop play. My internet connection is just not good enough. Curses again!!!

Check amazon -they have a PC download but you still have to join play station plus, that's 50$ a year. I had misgivings about co-op play but it isn't so bad. Especially on some levels friends are nice.
Gosh we could have made a team

Shucks! We could have! Nope, not gonna join Play Station Plus for $50 a year for something which would not do well on my slow internet connection anyway. BUMMER! (am I dating myself with the bummer comment?)
