hi guys....does anyone have a manual for Sanitarium they could send me? i bought the game and it contains no manual ( a brief very short text file that says manual at the xsgames site, but guess what ...no manual. you can mail it to me...i am trying to access inventory which should work (per text file) by pressing 'I' but it does not work and also cannot seem to get the towel to grasp (w/the hand) to the cable. I am just starting. i am on xp...have downloaded a patch, and getting ready to install it may fix this problem, but would still like a manual. thanks guys. happydance

I borrowed the game and don't think I still have it but I'll check. I had a hard time getting the towel to connect to the cable, too. Might be something you haven't done yet that causes it. Not sure. laugh

"Sanitarium.txt" on the 1st Game Disk looks like it is also the "Manual", or close enough to it, to be what you're looking for. Check it out. laugh

EDIT:

Having read more of the .txt file and more of your posts it appears that you may already have found this info. I never did get a Manual so all I know is what is on the 1st disk. laugh

Hi Gamenut,

I have Sanitarium but no manual either.

You have to be standing in just the right spot to use the towel on the cable. If I remember correctly, it was either right in front of the cable or right behind it.

I don't remember using 'I' for inventory (just clicking on it) but inventory was hard to use for me on XP also. Once I picked something up, it didn't want to go back into inventory until I used it. Sometimes it would & sometimes it wouldn't. I had to save often because of the inventory problem and because of sporadic crashes. I suggest you do too.

The patch didn't seem to help me. Do you have the 2002 version? Betty Lou said it doesn't need the patch so that could be why it didn't seem to make a difference in my game.

Gamenut, I don't know if this would make any difference or not, but did you "examine" both the towel and the cable before you tried to put the towel on the cable. One walkthrough that I saw said that most things had to be "looked at" before you used them.

At least it's worth a try--couldn't hurt any...

I THINK I NEED TO SEE THE OBJECT IN THE INVENTORY BEFORE I CAN EXAMINE IT-LOOK AT IT, BUT I CANNOT GET TO THE INVENTORY TO LOOK CLOSER AT ANYTHING. I THINK I WILL TRY THE THING THAT WAS RECOMMENDED TO ME FOR THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY mYST/rIVEN...I HAD TO MAKE THE rIVEN EXE 'COMPATABLE ' TO '98. I PROBABLY SHOULD GO TO INFERNO'S PAGE 1ST THERE MAY BE SOME INFO THERE. LOTS OF TIPS FOR XP & GAMES I SAW, BUT AT THE TIME DID NOT HAVE ONE TO CHECK.

Gamenut, I would DEFINITELY recommend that you check out Inferno's setup page--besides the setup (which she has in detail) there is some other vital information which could prevent serious damage to your computer! scared

And I know this whole thing must be getting very frustrating, but I don't think you really intended to shout at us, did you? That's what solid capitals indicates on the internet--shouting... laugh

This game, from what I remember was very "pixel oriented" and the earlier version can indeed be hazardous to both the gamer and the gamer's computer... blush

Most of the items need to be examined before you can use them.

Did you ...
Walk to the lower left hand of your screen to the switch and turn off the siren?

Speak with your fellow inmates?
(You'll get some background info on Dr. Morgan.)

Walk into the third room and pick up the towel?

Go upstairs and look at the large angel statue and the lock in the base?

Then try to use the towel on the high voltage wire to slide into the control tower?

Morning gamenut,
I started to replay Sanitarium last night to see if there is anything to help you. The only keyboard stuff is: The {I), inventory; (ESC), main menu; (Shift-L), quick load a saved game; (Shift-S), quick save current game.
Anyhow, place cursor over main character, an upturned hand icon should appear. Now when you left click mouse, all inventory items you have picked up will be displayed in bubbles. Place cursor over item and here what it appears to be. Left click on the item to transform your mouse cursor into that item. Then just choose a target to use item on. It will flash when it is in the correct place. To get out of inventory, right click, Esc key or left click on the main character. This brings you back to normal game screen. I never did much like the (I) key on XP.

Evening gamenut,
Thanks, I think, I am back at it tonight on the third world/level. The game is very intuitive, no WT or cheat codes needed. I have not played this in years. It is a top Ten Game. The pumpkin patch kids did give it a Children of the Corn look. I trust that my hints can help you play through with just the mouse and no keyboard stuff. I am now in a new Loony Bin talking to Elvis, and yes he has not yet left the building.
