Windows 10 download/updates

I'm very glad that I know about this now, before this starts to happen.

One of the stupidest things they have ever done. It's been in the works for some time now and I only HOPE that I've taken care of it on the computers of all my people who I do not want to migrate to Windows 10. I have one guy in his 80's that I'm not sure about and I need to get to his place to make sure I did indeed get rid of the update.

Draclvr, When you have the time will you please tell people, like me, how to get rid of the update. I do not want Windows 10.

Jenny posted a link some time ago in this forum - I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT: This link should work for you, kazzmo.

Draclvr, Thank you. I just recently started using Windows 8, so I have a lot of catching to do.

Very useful info Drac. Have you read the comments? Windows 10 does great things like search your system and remove offensive programs whether you want it to or not. In fact it's so good that MS determined you will have it or else. I guess the best comparison would be it emulates the new health care law because both have resorted to "you will accept it or else."

There is no way that malware will ever get downloaded here. It might be the best sales promotion ever for Linux or Mac. All I can say is proceed at your own risk and kiss privacy goodbye.

While Microsoft has dropped the ball on several things with Windows 10 in my opinion, there is also a HUGE amount of misinformation out there.

Well Guys.... I am so Happy with windows 10..
Drac was correct it is very user friendly and I love all the advantages I get with 10...
Plus security updates was the main reason I wanted it so badly..

Nice to know Marian.

I just attempted an upgrade from my Windows 7 Media/Entertainment PC and ended up rolling it back after having to deal with the dreaded endless SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED BSOD cycle at start up. Just didn't feel like having to drudge through Microsoft's Safe Mode workarounds to troubleshoot. I'll wait until they actually address the issue and then attempt the upgrade again.

I've been so lucky so far and every system I've upgraded worked like a charm. Since you say it is a media/entertainment PC, be sure you won't lose any software you need. Maybe run a compatibility check.

Been there done that smile Everything checked out prior to the upgrade. I built the PC and recently upgraded it. It's an i5 with recent manufacture 250GB SSD for the boot drive, 16 GB of RAM, 2 TB's of top line WD platter drives and a 3D capable vid card. The one off aspect I noted directly after the upgrade was that the wifi adapter was disabled and none of our network settings carried through, first guess was a driver conflict related to the adapter. Unfortunately, the BSOD cycle kept cropping up too quick for in-platform diagnostics and after spending however long downloading and upgrading I just didn't have the gumption to go through the whole safe-mode troubleshooting regimen, so took the easy way out. This too will pass, I'm sure. lol

I was thinking more software, but if you ran the compatibility check, you should be good to go. I have a USB WiFi adapter and mine was disabled too. It was an old on which I knew wouldn't have Windows 10 drivers, so I just did a reboot and Windows 10 updated the drivers and I was able to connect.

Didn't have any BSODs though! I'm with you - take the easy way out at that point!
