I assume you're using DOSBox because you mention "mounting."
You also have to mount the CD drive.

Check here for information on how to mount
http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/MOUNT

Example: if your CD drive is F:, mount it this way:

Z:\>MOUNT D F:\ -t cdrom

The game in DOSBox will recognize your CD drive as D: even though the drive name in Windows is F:

Once everything is mounted properly, you can list the contents of the drive in DOSBox using the command DIR D:

According to the manual, you install the game by entering
D:\INSTALL

I really hate to continue to ask questions concerning the DOS game The Dame Was Loaded but it has become an obsession to get this game up and running.
I have used the following commands: mount d D:\ -t cdrom, mount c C:\, D:\install exe. I can not get beyond this.

!!!!!!!!!!!! Do NOT ever use Mount C C:\ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You ABSOLUTELY do NOT want DOSBox using your entire hard drive as its C: drive.

Make a special folder for DOSBox games.
You can call it C:\DOSgames

Or if it's easier to remember what your C is, make a C subfolder inside the DOSgames folder called
C:\DOSgames\C

And use the mount command:

Mount C C:\DOSgames\C

That will make DOSBox think the C:\DOSgames\C folder is the C drive

If your CD drive is really D, the mount D command should be OK.

Jenny100,

Thanks for your help but I have decided to get over this obsession with my old DOS games for a while and just enjoy the newer games that are being released. I do thank you and everyone else I have asked for help. I will get problem solved one day but it is time to move on.

You may have chosen a game that's hard to get running.
If you really want to play The Dame, the eBay guy is selling discs along with his custom installer at
http://www.ebay.com/itm/231154503708

Otherwise watch a "Let's Play" on YouTube.

I had no trouble installing and running the game in DOSBox, but I did have to do a couple extra steps to get the sound working. It was with an earlier version of DOSBox, though, so maybe now the sound would just work.

Sorry to enter this thread so late, but anyone using DOSBox will find it much much easier to use D-Fend Reloaded. This gui greatly simplifies the process of installing and running games via DOSBox.

thumbsup I agree with Robert. D-Fend Reloaded made it a lot easier for me.

What I don't like about D-Fend Reloaded is that it is pretty heavy handed with the registry. If you really need to use a frontend DBGL is a good one and does not touch the registry. It is also written in Java so it also runs on Mac and Linux.
