After years of producing four females but not one single male, I bought a male, Charlie and guess what; he dotes on females and almost ignores me darn Poser. So he is up for auction anything over 1$ secures.

Glad you all seem to like the little poser, a bit more info.

Charlie is a pedigree King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. They get their name from their plumed tail as in the plumed hats that the cavaliers’ wore.
Charlie passed his tests a few months ago to become a ‘Pat Dog’ a term we use in the UK for a dog to visit care homes for the elderly. Their not allowed pets of their own because when they pass on it leaves the staff with the problem of finding a home for their pets.

The tests for a Pat dog are fairly strict and must be carried out by a qualified vet, so glad to say Charlie passed with flying colours. Not sure it you have the equivalent in the States but its really rewarding for everyone engaged, for you, the dog and for the residents who really look forward to the visits.

Apologies for the download from Photobucket. I downloaded the urls for the pics and submitted without checking the content which posted the entire page and once posted I couldn’t delete. I will make sure it won’t happen again.

Cari, we do indeed have therapy dogs here that can visit nursing homes and such. They too have to pass the test for having a good disposition suitable for such a duty. King Charles Cavaliers are also popular here, although for myself, I just prefer a shelter rescue of any kind.

The therapy dogs that visit places like nursing homes make a huge difference for those who miss their pets. There is even a group that provides miniature therapy horses that visit places like this! You can look up Gentle Carousel Miniature Therapy Horses on the internet.

I'm sure Charlie will bring much joy on his visits! He is such a pretty boy... All my dogs are either shelter rescues or they have been dumped out here in the country to die.

Gardens put to bed for the winter. Time for some gaming!

Thank you for the info, I thought that there would be similar organised facilities in the States as it brings an hour or so joy to many for so little cost.
Charlie was bred for the show ring but was thought to be too large for the purpose so he was disposed of by the breeder to a Cavalier charity who only takes unwanted dogs of that particular breed; so not a rescue dog as such but pretty near.
I have rather mixed feelings about show dogs, I mean its all just a matter of preference isn’t it and I can guarantee that Charlie enjoys a far better life style than many his cosseted companions from the show ring; two long runs a day, one on a sandy beach and one in open fields.
A little poem of mine for Charlie and maybe for your dog too.

Run Boy Run.

The leash undone and free to run
Leaping bounding paws a’ pounding,
Watch me master, faster, faster
Now I’m going for all I’m worth
Skimming over the sweet, sweet earth
~
Down, down the winding lane
To the jingling of my collar chain
Wriggling under the old farm gate
To freedom fields where joy awaits
Dewy grass and poppy flowers
Where I can run for hours and hours
~
Now at your feet, curled in rest
Snuggled warmth by fireside blessed
I lift my trusting eyes to you
Oh master if you only knew
and if my thoughts I could convey
The love I feel for you this day
