Is this game supposed to work in Win 7? I know i had it installed before and it worked but I don't remember if that was on my old XP machine or not. I can't remember if I used Virtual PC for this game. At any rate it won't install for me now. Any advice?

Sharon

There's only 1 way to know for sure - if there are issues, try setting the compatibility mode to XP. You'll also have to follow the instructions in the thread below.

Finally - Everyone can now play Dark Side of the Moon in XP

I'll see if I can find my copy and give it a shot. I seem to recall running it on Windows 7, but it was a long time ago smile

Can't install patch because game won't install. Tried compatibility with XP SP2 but nothing happened. I think I must have used Virtual PC. I just thought I had this game working right on this computer. -- No! I remember now. It was my old XP system that it worked perfectly on.

The thread GreyFuss mentioned in the old GB thread mentioned above has been archived at
http://archive.adventuregamers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3837

The download links in post #34 from Winterfury in that AG archive thread seem to still be functional.

I've also uploaded the latest version of RICHED32.DLL (5.0.1461.82), the one that was shipped with Windows ME. It was the last 'true' version before Microsoft switched to emulation:

The game is from 1998. The installer may have used 16-bit code even if the game itself didn't. That means it would install on 32-bit XP, 32-bit Vista, and 32-bit Windows 7, but not 64-bit Windows 7.

According to this thread there is a patch that allows it to run under Windows 7 -

DSOM Windows 7 Patch

Here's the post with the link. I haven't tried it yet, but it scanned clean for viruses.

Quote:
I currently still have the same issue involving Blackjack with Kit. I was able to find an entirely unrelated patch to allow this game to run on 64-bit Windows 7, and it ran perfectly fine, until said blackjack scene. I tried installing the patch, but blackjack (and everything else, all of a sudden) started crashing. I just reinstalled the game and I'm going to try playing up to the casino with the video patch again.

Here's that fix for 64-bit Windows http://www.visualtour.com/downloads/xp_fix.exe

Your best bet is to run Windows 98 or XP in a virtual machine.

I tried the xp fix twice and nothing changed. Thanks for your help Inland & Jenny. I think I'll have to dust off my OLD XP machine and try it there.
