help Help! I am in the study and have just gotten the clock to work. I've put the 3 weights on it and wound the clock with the key. I go to the small door on the other side of the room but no one speaks from the other side. There is no warning of bomb. I try to put the bag of gun powder on the door handle but it won't 'take.' All I get is Sherlock saying over and over, 'locked.' What have I not done or what am I doing wrong? Help!! help

Replay this part and be sure that you have the colored weights placed.
The clock face should be open now.
Then click the key on the clocked face to wind it.

Move to the other side of the room and stand on the side of the desk. Face the small door. I think it's the positioning here that is icky.
Try zooming in or try different position. luck

Did you have any problems playing this game? Now I can't play at all, Microsoft error. mad I ran into this problem a few months ago when I downloaded Microsoft update KB 824141. I deleted it and everything was fine. Now my game is quiting again and I can't play or take your suggestion to see if it works. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="tongue.gif" /> Any ideas on how to 'fix' it so I can play the game again? KB 824141 isn't on my computer. I checked.

One other question I'd like to ask. If my game won't play because of a bad hard drive, is there a way I can save my unfinished games to load them onto a new hard drive and finish the games later? I hear you folks talk about saved games you give to others; does this include saving a game to load to a new hard drive? If so, how do I do this? think thanks

Why not click on the games you have saved and use the "send to" feature to send them to a floppy disk in your A drive? I've saved games on a floppy (or a zip disk if the save is too big for a floppy) and later transferred them to another computer...

For this game you can locate the TMOTM folder on your C drive and just drag it to a floppy, zip disk or CD/RW. That way you have a copy of the saves and they can be moved anywhere you like.

bravo So THAT is how it's done. smile Yay!! Thanks again. Do I have to copy the entire game, program and all? Or do I just copy the saved game I've played folder? Is that the yellow folder? Am I making sense? I hope so. Have you had problems playing this game? Or maybe it IS my hard drive. If it is, :grrr: My other hard drive lasted 2 years and this one is not 2 years old and it's been in the shop a lot of time. Double grrrr... How long is a hard drive 'supposed' to last? thanks

Not sure about the colors of the folders, but you don't need to copy the game folder, just the one with your saves in it. Everything else will be restored when you install the game again...

Sorry to go on about this but I don't know what file is the saved game file. Other than it not being the obvious 'uninstall MOTM,' I have no idea which is the right one. The folders say 'MOTM, documents and settings' or 'MOTM program files.' That is the one with the yellow folder. Other than that, there is a picture of Sherlock. I'm new to all this using a cd burner and have no idea what I'm doing. frown I did a serch from the start button for MOTM and I came up with about 6 files.

MaG, now that my computer is working again I could finally try your suggestions. How do I replay the game if I had already saved it past putting on the weights and opening the face of the clock and winding it? I've tried your suggestion and tried going to the little door by going around the desk. No luck. All Sherlock says is 'locked.' I can't put the bag of dynamite on the door. All I get is 'locked' when I try to put the bag on. frown Any other suggestions? I'm really stuck no matter how many times I try.

lpbeeth,

As I recall, the problem most gamers have here is placing the bag on the floor. Look down in front of the door and place it on the floor. luck

Hi MaG, I did as you suggested and tried to place the bag on the floor. No luck. I tried going out of the room and coming back in, once winding around the desk, and once straight from the door. I tried clicking on the door first so I heard say Sherlock say 'locked,' and then I tried to place the bag on the floor and on the handle. No luck no matter what I do. frown Do I have the wrong bag? The only thing that says 'bag' in my inventory is a burgundy, triangular thing. This is what I try to place on the floor or the handle. Thanks. smile

Have you filled the bag with gunpowder? It won't go into place unless it contains the gunpowder.

It's been too long since I've been in the wine cellar to remember if I put gun powder in the bag. I do have the strategy guide and have been following it so I must have put gun powder in the bag when I was in that part of the game. I tried to go downstairs to the wine cellar to try to get some gp but the fire prevents me. I can't go downstairs. Any other suggestions? smile

Does anyone have a patch for the part of the game I'm at (putting bag filled with gunpowder in front of the small door in the study)? I would like to finish this game if possible. If someone does have a patch would please tell me how to apply it? I've never done this before and wouldn't know what to do. Thanks!! smile

I've been looking for a patch for you, but there doesn't seem to be one for the English game. Since I read earlier on this thread that you transferred your saved games, why don't you go back to an earlier save and be sure you put the gunpowder in the bag? My bet is that somehow in the process of moving around, you have an empty bag in your inventory. luck

Btw, I took out your second post--there is no need to put up the same thing twice, we'll get to you as soon as we can...

Great! I'll try going back to one of my saved games and see what happens. smile

I put a second post because when I went to see if there was an answer to my first one it wasn't there. I thought a glitch had happened and it hadn't posted. That's why I wrote the same thing again.

Will let you know how the saved game works...and if in the meantime if you find a patch...!!! thanks

Jenny, since I've never done what you suggest above,I want to ask how do I do that? If I go back to a saved game and put the gunpowder in the bag will it transfer to the 'future' saved game I'm having problems with now? I've never done this and don't know. Thanks. smile

If you go back to a saved game and put the gunpowder in the bag, then you will have to continue the game on from there--that action won't automatically show up in a game that you've already saved farther along.

It's like a path--there is a juncture where the gunpowder first shows up. Right now you are on path A, where the gunpowder isn't in the bag. You can go back to the juncture and put it in the bag--now you are on path B, where the bag contains gunpower. There is no connection between the paths, so you need to continue on path B.... luck

Jenny, I don't know what to do from here. Never done it before. I copied the TMOM yellow folder to a disk. I then put it in my CD rom drive and tried to 'send to' c drive. At the 'send to' option there is no c drive, only d and e. I tried playing the disk like the TMOM game disk. No go. I don't know how to use the info from here, how to get into a past saved game and play from there. Help!! think

If you are trying to go back to an earlier saved game, you don't need to send anything anywhere. Just use the "load game" function and click on the picture to load the game just before you picked up the bag...

I only have one icon to load in my TMOM game, when I put in the disk. It's the same game in which I am having problems now. I just kept saving the same game. I don't know how to go backwards. Sorry to belabor this. I just don't get it.

The Mystery of the Mummy will only let you save 6 times. So if you have been saving all those times then the rest of your saves are probably gone. My guess is you can probably start the game over from the beginning or I can try to send you a save near the gunpowder area.

Oh, yes, if you only have one save that is a real problem. That's why it's always a good idea to make as many multiple saves as the game will allow you to make.

Even when there are only six slots, as in this game, you can transfer the saves to another folder when the slots are full, and start with a new batch...
