What is your most memorable last scene in a movie? For me it’s from an old black and white film made way before I stuck my ugly head out to the world. The end of an illicit love affair, not one you would have much sympathy for the woman involved, who has a loving husband and children. No, I think not, especially when it was made 1940s and yet I have yet to see anything that expresses sadness as in this final scene. David Lean, the director employs a master stroke of introducing the gossipy woman who denied them their final words together is a masterpiece. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hubyFqSUaGA

I love movies!! David Lean was a bit special. The last scene in Big Night where they eat a simple omelette against the background of where their respective lives are heading is memorable, especially for foodies. The remake of True Grit where she visits the graveyard made an impact. Other ones are: - Leaving the house and walking out between The Birds - Closing the door on Kay in The Godfather - The end is the beginning in Memento - The full circle realisation in Triangle (a much neglected psycho-horror film) - Kevin Spacey walking out of the station in The Usual Suspects - Brad Pitt opening the box in 7even (not quite the last scene) - Hannibal Lector wondering down the street talking about having a friend for dinner
Quantity has a quality all of its own

Charlton Heston at the end of 'Planet of the Apes' saying, they finally did it' as we see the Statue of Liberty buried in the sand.

Like flotsam the final scene in Seven with Spacey, Pitt and the box.
The end of the Pit and the Pendulum.
It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.
