Why is it nobody understands me and everybody likes me?

Many of us learned about collective nouns at school. One of the many oddities of the English language is the multiplicity of different names given to collections or groups, be they animals, birds, people or things. Many of these examples of collective nouns are evocative, and extremely clever.

You may have a distant memory of the common pairings, such as: a parliament of rooks; a run of poultry; a herd of bison; a pod of dolphins; a colony of ants; a swarm of bees; a school of cod; a shoal of herrings; a tribe of natives; a cortège of mourners and many, many others.

However, Will and Guy have thought up some new, different, amusing and perhaps quirky English collective nouns, hopefully, this list of collective nouns will make you smile!

A load of cobblers

An expectation of midwives

A List of Collective Nouns Featuring Animals and People

About half of these assemblages are true, they are unlikely, but they are accepted as collective nouns. The other half are funny collective nouns, but they don't actually exist on official lists - however much we wish they did. See if you can separate the true examples of collective nouns from the false.

Thumping Good Thursday puppy

I see bright blue sky and yellow sun! I don't know if I'll make the park today, but I'd like to. Rain in the forcast for tomorrow, but I have to make shampoo and hair rinse today as I Have to wash my hair. We have Bible Study tonight and I'm really hoping to feel well enough to go. In preperation for that, shampooing must take place.

I've got hubby's chili reheating, and our chicken soup simmering. Smoothies are done and I'm enjoying mine and the kitchen is cleaned. Dogs are fed. Time to sit and sip for a sec before switching hats, and heading back to the kitchen.

Joe, I always love the Flocks, Herds, Litters, and Schools names. Who comes up with these things? Grats on your point.

Ana, how is Merlin?

Space, hope your Thursday is awesome!

Venus, long work day?

Haroula, wave

Gerry, thanks for the tea. Love that hamster. He makes me smile.

Connie, nothing beats Bacon Sandwiches for breakfast. And I didn't even have to make it hamster

Gail, your plan sounds perfect. Enjoy!

Darlene, hope whatever you find is lots of fun.

HI everyone. Sorry about my absence. I've been dealing with a few issues about my health. On the 22nd of January I go back to the plastic surgeon and discuss the next procedure on my nose. The graft didn't fully take and I'm not happy with the results. I'm not gonna wear a bandage on my nose for the rest of my life so I have one more option. I could use some good vibes my way pleaseandthankyou. The other issue I'm dealing with is I have COPD now. I get winded more than I like to. The dr. put me on Advair. That helps. Anyway that's what I've been up to.

Hi Ana. How's your grandson?

Midgie hearts Connie I missed the BBpancakes this morning. Sorry. I'll have some tomorrow morning.smile
