Solver, You have to go up one level in each elevator and turn on the lights.

You're welcome, Solver. By the way, I just checked the walkthrough at the Alida site, and the directions are there. I just think it's so packed with information that it's easy to overlook small details. When I first played, it took me a while to realize I could go up another level. Something that happened with an elevator in Myst surfaced in my gray matter, and I had a mini "aha" moment and pushed the button again.

Solver,
You should have had the black keys come down when you played the code.
You will need to visit Arin's vault for a further clue in solving this puzzle. Have you done that?

Solver, I think it was Tig who mentioned that walking toward the t-rider again triggers the message from Arin, but I haven't tested it myself. I don't remember where I went between my first and second visit (probably everywhere). Anyway, it's a moot point now that the t-rider is operational. BTW, when you said you went to visit Arin, I'm assuming that you climbed the ladder in the purple light. I think there was some confusion between the strummer viewer (up the elevator by the main vault) and Arin's vault a while back, so I'm just checking to make sure we're on the same page.

I was wondering the same thing as Lady K, Solver. I think you are not as far along in the game as you think you are. Melanie

Solver, As far as the dungeon is concerned, . . . the 12 o' clock position is 1. From there move the left dial to 21 and the right to 22. Save your game before you go to investigate. You may need to reload.

Solver, I think it goes in your Alida game file, but I'm not absolutely sure. Several others have used it, so they'll have to give you the details.

Solver, I take it you have solved the conservatory model puzzle and seen Arin's spherin for the correct switch settings. If you have set the switch, peghead, and potentiometers to the settings in the spherins, your next task is to translate the rune code you saw up the switch stairs. Have you found the panel that will help you interpret the code?

You can access the switch ball from where you are now, Solver, and will just have to reset it according to the spherin. Go to the water tone machine and push the button until the ball is in the center right position of the triangle (B on the keyboard), then go pull the lever to rotate the switch. You'll then gain access to the stairs. You can either make a screen capture of the drawing or copy it by hand, then reset the switch according to the spherin video.

Solver,
In the main chamber there are switches on the columns. Have you tried changing the switch & going through the doorways yet?
The Runes panel is by the glass house.

Solver, It sounds like one of your final settings is off. Check the switch first. Many folks have forgotten to pull the lever after setting the water tone machine to the final setting in the spherin. If that doesn't do it, go back to the potentiometers and check the final planet settings. In the peghead, you can tell if you've set the machine heads properly by looking out the peg porthole. If there are no lights, that one is correct. Good luck.

I mean that you can go directly to each of the spherins (in the conservatory, at the top of the jack tower, and down the peghead elevator) to make sure you have set everything correctly without replaying each puzzle completely. If you've been going back to saved games, you may have gone back to a place where something was done incorrectly.
This is just a thought, but I have been assuming that you have completed the puzzles that revealed the hidden spherins. You have, haven't you? I know of one person who set the potentiometer planet panels the same as the ones in the cabins instead of using the spherin settings.
Again, before you strum, check again to make sure Arin's vault (up the ladder) and the main vault (by the strummer elevator) is unlocked according to the button code.
