How do they get so many games to run on Win 10? I've got all the GK series, Phantasmagoria 1&2 and Syberia 1&2, oh and Amerzone. I'll have plenty to play, while I'm stuck home for the snow.
If the games run in DOSBox or ScummVM, the job is mostly done for them. All they do is configure DOSBox or ScummVM to be invisible.
They also use various wrappers to get some games to work. (Some Mac games from Big Fish do the same thing -- essentially they're the PC version with a wrapper)
GOG sometimes sets compatibility mode for you. Some games made to work in XP will run in Windows 7 and later without any tweaking other than using compatibility mode or installing in a location other than Program Files.
And yes there are other tricks they can use, like using older versions of dll files with games originally made for Windows 98.
It sounds like you'll have some fun times this weekend. Enjoy.
They did have auto save at certain points, so had to play till I saw the gears, then could close the game. But I didn't like that I couldn't save when I wanted too.
