Are you asking why moonshine is part of a recipe?
If so, wine, beer, sherry, rum, whiskey - other spirits have been part of recipes for a long time.
Plus moonshine I believe is made from corn and so can give that additional flavor.

Moonshine was once just an illegal spirit that folks distilled at home. Problem was there was no way of knowing what was in it or how high the alcohol content. There are now legitimate versions of moonshine available, made by reputable distillers.
