Fill in each box in the grid with the numbers 1 to 7 so that each number appears exactly once in each row and column. The clues tell the sum of the numbers in the squares. For example, A12 = 6 means that the numbers in A1 and A2 add up to 6. A34 = 7 AB7 = 6 BC3 = 9 BC6 = 7 C45 = 8 D234 = 9 DE7 = 10 E123 = 8 EFG4 = 13 EFG5 = 7 G12 = 7 G67 = 5

Making my head spin!
Question (to make sure I've interpreted locations properly): after entering the 12 clues in the grid, we can right away identify 3 of the 49 locations as blanks, right?
Don't want to say which 3, in case you scold me for giving clues!! But I will if you say it's ok.

Logically, as the grid is 7 x 7, the numbers 0 - 6 must appear in each row/column (so 13 zeroes - what Denis refers to as blanks, rather than 3), but I do not think that the clues necessarily help identify the "empty" spaces straight away. I am quite keen on sudoku and better yet, futoshiki, but I have not yet applied myself to this puzzle.

Yes they do; like, if the clues place some value in say A1 to A6, then A7 is blank (or zero!). Like clue EFG5 = 7 means that E5, F5 and G5 are all non-zero. Unless I'm not looking at the clues properly...

Aaaahhhhhh! No! The numbers 1-7 are used. My sincere apologies.

Pandora, give yourself only half the lashes you intended, as it would have worked with 0 to 6, by reducing the clues by 2 or 3, depending on number of squares clued: A34 = 7 : 5 AB7 = 6 : 4 BC3 = 9 : 7 BC6 = 7 : 5 C45 = 8 : 6 D234 = 9 : 6 DE7 = 10 : 8 E123 = 8 : 5 EFG4 = 13 : 10 EFG5 = 7 : 4 G12 = 7 : 5 G67 = 5 : 3
This would then be the grid: 4,0,5,2,6,3,1 1,5,0,3,4,6,2 5,2,4,6,1,0,3 3,6,2,0,5,1,4 2,4,3,1,0,5,6 6,3,1,5,2,4,0 0,1,6,4,3,2,5

Oh, I deserve a full portion, Denis, but thank you. I hate wasting peoples' time, and I sure did a lot of that with this puzzle. It's a lot of fun when you've got all of the information right.
