Hi. Could someone enlighten me on this, please? I ran this trojan remover the other day and it came up with a fairly long list of trojans in old files. My question is, how do these things get into files that have been on my pc for months or even years? Also if I remove or quarantine something how would that affect my games?
Thanks. duh

I wouldn't trust Loaris Trojan remover

It's quite possible you didn't have any trojans -- at least not before you installed Loaris.

The more I read about this so-called trojan remover, the more it sounded like a trojan itself. I would get rid of immediately and then run a trusted malware remover such as Malwarebytes to get rid of anything Loaris infected you with.

From a link in another post at the WOT forums:

I've just noticed this latest episode, publicized by S!Ri. We all knew it was happening, but now thanks to S!Ri, we have the proof we needed. Makes me glad I stuck to my guns about keeping the likes of Loaris, included in hpHosts (as if we didn't already have enough evidence against them - now they've provided us with even more!).

+1 for Malwarebytes, it's one of the best ones out there.

Other cons are ads for driver updates, registry cleaners and so on. Run their doctored scans and I guarantee they will find a host of doubtful problems that they will sort for you at a price.
Every six months or so I back up everything on my pc then delete windows and install a clean version and run the backup discs and install what I want to.
The only cost is your time, mine takes far less than a day.

Rogue programs like this Loaris are the bane of my computer fixing life. I have one individual who I could just not get to stop clicking on these ads for trojan scanners, registry cleaners, driver updates etc. like you mention. I finally had to tell him I could no longer rescue him from these programs messing up his computer. He stopped and I've done general maintenance for him several times now.

If I had a great internet service, I'd probably do what you do once a year. As it is, it takes days to download all the current security updates.

Oops, not good. I've had Loaris on my pc for a good while now. I got it on giveawayoftheday months ago. When I ran the scan and had all the trojans, I stopped the scan and closed out of it. I expected to see the same today when I ran it but it showed none! I do use Malwarebytes on both PC's and I agree with the removal of Loaris, it's a pain in the backside sometimes. I guess no need to go back to my original question, right?
Thank you boomers!

Good move, Terri824! There are virtually NONE of those Giveaway of the Days that I install on my computer. They push way too many "iffy" programs.

Seriously? I thought that was a safe website. I've used it for years and didn't seem to have a problem.
I don't know what I would do without help from my fellow boomers.
Big hug and thanks! hearts

A lot of once-safe websites have gone bad.

I wept when Tucows went to the darkside.

Terri, I've never had any problems with their games at all. But I've researched some of their daily offerings and some have been useless at best and questionable reputations at the worst. I've downloaded two things from them over the years, but not before doing quite a bit of digging on the internet about the programs.

I realized that, just didn't realize that was one of them.
