It was a very sad day. cry

On 28 January 1986 at 11: 39 AM, EST, the space shuttle Challenger STS51L exploded, 74 seconds into its flight and about 10 miles above the earth. Killed were teacher Christa McAuliffe (who was to have been the first ordinary citizen in space) and six crew members: Francis R. Scobee, Michael J. Smith, Judith A. Resnik, Ellison S. Onizuka, Ronald E. McNair and Gregory B. Jarvis.

A very sad day indeed.

It's nice to be important but it is much more important to be nice.

Sometimes I forget the actual date but I always remember it happened in Jan 86, just a lil over 3 weeks after having my 1st born.

I remember it too. I was at the gym, and thought some guys were laughing about this. I tore into them pretty good. I couldn't stop watching like if I watched it enough, it would change.

I'll never forget it. And my daughter was watching it on television in her classroom.

Hubby and I were watching the launch from the back yard. It was a terrible sight. The elementary school had the children in the school yard watching the launch.

It makes me so sad to see it again and again. One tiny glitch and it was all over. My dad was an aerospace engineer. He worked many times at the Cape on our manned and unmanned rockets. He explained exactly what went wrong. So tragic. Connie, you really must have nightmares about it. Being so close and seeing what was happening, all the while, the announcers trying to downplay it all. Sigh...
