Hi Gerry, I haven't noticed much difference. The task bar, I think the color is changed and some of the icons look different. I had to redownload Ccleaner, the old one wasn't compatible. But I do think the internet is faster, pages load quicker. I was afraid I'd lose some of my stuff (pics etc) but I didn't. hamster So far I like it and I'm one who hates change. woozy

Thanks for the update TLC. Sounds promising. Have you tried playing any games that you already have on your Mac?

Thanks, Gerry, Seems the only thing that wasn't compatible was the old version of Ccleaner, that was an easy fix. hamster

rotfl Gerry. It does start up a lil different, now I have to choose signing on as me or guest. I wonder if I can get rid of guest, I'm the only one that uses it. wave2

Got rid of Guest, in the system preferences. joy Well Guest still shows at startup but can't be used.

I KNOW it is my elderly mind which does not like change, but I've been working on an old Mac laptop for a friend as a favor and there is nothing logical or easy about it - for me! I told her I know nothing about Macs and this Mac OS has nearly driven me to drink! It makes everything twice as difficult as it needs to be! I can't do a simple download and install and I'm done.. NO! I have to drag things someplace else and then "eject" the download. Where is my right click context menu to do simple stuff!!

lol I just laugh at myself! lol Good thing my "charge" for working on a computer is a bottle of wine!

Hmmmmm I found it easy from the start. The download files, I just right click and send them to the trash. When I installed the new Ccleaner, I just had to move it to the folder, next to it. To uninstall some games, I just drag it to the trash or use Ccleaner to get rid of it. wave2

Maybe it's the fact that this is a 5 year old laptop with an older OSX on it. All I know is that it's making me nuts!

The OS is old and Chrome will not support it any longer. So, I'm trying to get Safari or Firefox to work on it. And I'm looking into whether we can upgrade her OSX (I'm not sure which one it is yet), but I'm finding Apple does not offer very good support for anything much older than 3 years. I got Firefox working on it just fine, but then found out that I had to do more gyrations to get it to stay. That's where I ran into this whole "ejecting" the download thing. It makes my brain hurt!

If the owner uses any program that requires Rosetta to run, do not update the OS on the laptop.

OS 10.6.8 was the last version to support Rosetta.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosetta_%28software%29

If the owner is already using OS 10.7 or later, they're not using Rosetta.

Not sure what you mean unless you were running it from a mounted volume without actually installing it.

I guess you've found these instructions

Nope, no Resetta or anything like it. The laptop is at least 5 or 6 years old.

Yes, that's exactly the link I used for Firefox. You had to do this whole dragging to the Applications and then using this goofy "eject" thing. I'm used to downloading, installing and being done!

I am with Draclvr on the use of Mac, especially the older OS versions of Mac, there was a lot of Rules and limitations to a user of what he or she can do with their own system, But Mac has come a long way and they have made it easier for the ordinary user to get used to it, my Oldest Brother-In-Law is now a Mac user thanks to me and his youngest brother and it took him awhile to get the hang of it he was discouraged at first, but 2 months later he is now getting comfortable with it.
As for me, I am still a Windows user, for Life? Only time will tell, but somebody here mentioned Why? does MS not follow Mac regarding the Updating of their software, etc., well that is what MS is trying to do with Windows 10, but the MS haters came out in bunches to shoot down the system before it had a chance, granted their "Forcing" the update is not the way to go but this is what their goal is, Software Updates or Upgrades rather than New Versions, pretty much like Macs, I guess once again we can say that MS is taking a page form Mac.

Starcom, I have a Mac and recently bought an HP laptop. I mostly use my Mac for everything and the HP win10 for gaming. There are always updating to do on the HP, gets annoying some times and I hate that I need virus software on it and will have to upgrade (pay) for it every year. The Mac is so much easier. yes wave2

Hi TLC thanks for your reply-comments,
Yes the updating is annoying and MS will have to learn more off of Mac and do this updating in the background without the Users realizing that this is being done, but Win10 is trying to do that but again Windows users hate that because they claim they have no control over this. The problem with MS is that their Operating system(s) where too lax in security issues when Security way back when was not an Issue until the EVIL Hackers came along and MS philosophy was to let users run the machines pretty much the way they wanted to, now they are Paying the price for more security and more control over their OS since Millions of users were spoiled and used to the "Good Old ways".
As for Security Software(s) there are many Free Ones out there and Win 10 comes with it's own built in Security software, maybe not the best out there, but coupled with Malwarebytes (Free or Pro) and good surfing habits one should be good to go for safe surfing.

And enjoy the Security of Mac "Sans the need of Security software, Mac is gaining more and more popularity and as such, there will come a day sooner than you think that the Evil Hackers will start to increase their attacks on Macs..
Just my *5 Cents worth

* 5 Cents Canadian is worth 2 Cents US smile

TLC, why do you think you will need to pay for upgrades on your Windows PC every year? That is not true at all.

I have no problem with Microsoft keeping up with security updates... One of the big complaints about Mac is that they are painfully slow to respond to security issues. And if you don't think Macs have security issues, this is also false. They are few and far between, but as the Mac gains more market share - as Starcom says - they will rapidly become a more attractive target for the bad guys.

I use the free anti-virus that comes with Windows 10 along with Malwarebytes Pro and good surfing and computer usage habits. I am proud to say that in nearly 20 years on the internet, I have never been infected with anything.

I didn't mean for this to turn into any kind of criticism of the Mac OS! They both have their strengths and weaknesses. My brain is just wired for Windows and a comment about how easy it is to use the Mac made me laugh, because that is just not the case for me!
