I'm having a problem with this game on my old Window XP computer. I have played the game on it before years ago when it came out but now I'm getting this message: The procedure entry point glewlinit could not be located in the dynamic link library C:/Program Files (x86\Amnesia-The Dark Descent\Redist.\Launcher.exe glew32.dll

If anyone have an idea what this means or how to fix it please let met know, because I don't have a clue

Thanks,
Marie confused

Is this a 64-bit version of XP?
32-bit Windows XP only has a C:\Program Files folder.
I've only seen a C:\Program Files (x86) folder in 64-bit Windows.

See if you actually have a C:\Program Files (x86) folder
or if you only have the C:\Program Files folder.

As for how to fix it, see if Compatibility Mode helps.
I'd try setting it to Windows 2000.

If that doesn't help, try uninstalling and reinstalling the game to some location other than
C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files(x86)
(for example, install to your My Documents folder)

This is a download only game from Steam or GOG and it was released in 2010. The requirements aren't high, but it does need more than a low budget computer.

OS: Windows XP/Vista/7
Processor: 2.0Ghz - Low budget CPUs such as Celeron or Duron needs to be at about twice the CPU speed
Memory: 2 GB
Hard Drive: 3GB
Graphics: Radeon X1000/GF 6 - Integrated graphics and very low budget cards might not work.

I would second Jenny's suggestion to redownload the game. I'd suggest being very, very careful if you have this old XP computer on line though. Since you already own the game from either Steam or GOG, a better idea would be to download to a newer computer that is safer on the internet.

Hands down, the scariest game I've ever played!

She said the game worked on this computer back when the game first came out, which would be 2010. I would guess the video card is still good enough, though it's possible the drivers were changed to a newer version that isn't compatible with the game.

It would be good to know if it's the same version of the game as the one that originally worked, and not an "updated" version which might not support an older video card.

If the game is on a disk, then definitely uninstall and reinstall. I guess when I got my Dark Descent, it had gone to downloads - I remember trying to get a disk and I couldn't. I did see that you can still get a disk at Amazon.

Since it's been several years, maybe something has changed on the computer since then. Hopefully, marie has taken it off-line.

Jenny 100,My computer is 32-bit Windows XP, I found a C: Program Files folder. I can try the Compatability Mode for Win 2000. I don't know if the game that I tried to play this time is an updated version from steam. I haven't updated the drivers for this computer for about 3 yrs. since I bought a new computer and haven't gone back to play older games until now on my old Windows Xp. One reason for using my old computer is that Windows 10 doesn't play well or at all with older games.

oldbroad: If I don't have any luck doing troubleshooting would you be interested in loaning your disc for the game?

Marie

I downloaded the game to my computer with Windows 10 and installed it and it launched and I played it for about 5 minutes or so and saved, no problem. I then installed the patch(1.02) for the game and launched the game and got a message: Could not load main init file:conf.glmain-init.cfg. I wanted to patch the game to prevent any problems while playing such as any glitches. Since the error message I went back and uninstalled the game since you can't just uninstall the patch by itself and then reinstalled the game again. I guess I'll have to take my chances without the patch since it's caused the error message and I couldn't play the game.

I'll just plug along and hope I can play and finish the game.

oldbroad, Thanks you for your kind offer.

I never used the patch either and I've played the game twice with zero issues. Don't know where you downloaded the game from, but it it was Steam or GOG, their games are already patched. Was the patch for the disk version? If so, then it probably wouldn't have worked with the download version. Have fun and don't play in the dark late at night!

Dracvlr, The game was on Steam and so was the patch. It's been a little to long for me to remember if I had any issues with the game when I played, but I'm going for it since I finally got it running.

Thanks to all of you for your help.

Marie

I simply HAD to start a new game myself on my Windows 10 computer! I'll see how far I get before I get too scared to finish it again!
