In case anyone is interested this site has the latest unofficial patch for the game that shores up the bugs and holes from the original.
I feel a lot more like I do now, then when I first got here

As Marian says, it is indeed the Windows 10 copy protection issue. I could play it on my Windows 7 drive, but I hardly ever boot up into it any more. I played it shortly after it was released on my ancient old XP computer - I remember I had to upgrade the RAM from 512 MB to 2 GB to be able to play it well!

There was one complaint about the particular patch used... I'm glad to see Troika's flawed masterpiece is finally seeing the light of day here at GoG. However, I do wish we were getting the official 1.2 release rather than a version with a particular set of third-party fixes.
Why? There are actually two series of third-party patches for this wonderful game, which are incompatible with one another. If you like Wesp5's Unofficial Patch, great. If not, then as it stands, too bad, GoG baked it into the cake.
