Hello community,
has anybody played and completed RHEM IV SE?
I am wondering how much 'bigger' the SE compared to the first Edition is.
I have no idea what to expect, so can you help me out?
In particular, i would have the following questions:

1) I read there are new areas. In terms of size, how much bigger
is it? Is it just 110% of the size of the original RHEM IV or much more?
(100% would mean same size, so 200% would mean double size)

2) Obviously the most important thing in RHEM's are the puzzles.
So how much new puzzles are there? Are there just 1-2 added puzzles
and that's it? Or much more?

3) Of course any additional info (absolutely no puzzle spoilers please!!!)
would also be nice. Did you like it? Was it worth playing?
Where the puzzles original? Difficult? How long did the new part take
you to solve?

The bottom line is, i am wondering if this is just a slightly polished
RHEM IV which is, apart from 2-3 additions, basically the same as the first one,
or can i look forward to encountering lots of new puzzles?

Thanks!
Mike

Hi Mike,

We have a Rhem 4 Special Edition walkthrough here at GameBoomers. If you want to check it to see the additions.

1. I'm not good in estimating but I would think - 120 - 125%.
2. The addition is a whole new area with a lot more puzzles added (~15-17 more).
3. Oh yes - definitely play since it is an intro for the next Rhem 5.
I am not a good one to explain how long it takes to play - solve puzzles. But the puzzles are Knut's - so they are quality.

Hi MaG,

thanks a lot for the infos!

15-17 more puzzles sounds good, that is more than i hoped for :-)
I hope some of them are really hard!
And yes, i am sure they are quality. I have said it before: to me,
Knut is the best puzzle designer ever (in adventure games).
Apart from Riven and Schizm 1, nothing comes even close (in terms of puzzle quality).

Regarding the walkthrough, after i solved Rhem II, i promised myself to never use
a walkthrough for RHEM games, so i will not take a look before i finished the game
without one :-)

One last question: is it correct that some hints for the new puzzles
are in the old areas (i don't consider that a spoiler, but please just a 'yes'
or 'no', no additional informations)

Yes - hints can be found all over the old areas. Then you can solve those 2 puzzles at the new area.
Good that you solve the game on your own. bravo

I am also somewhat curious about the SE particularly about the need to play the IV SE Edition to be able to play Rhem 5. Here is what it says on the Rhem IV SE web page...

Quote:
story

Rhem4se_lake_view Dear friend,
If you have visited here at RHEM IV before, you will notice a few changes. Two new areas with secured entrances have been discovered. For the successful conclusion of this extended Rhem IV World; not only will you have to find the nine golden fragments but you must obtain an item that will gain access to RHEM V.

Rhem IV - The Golden Fragments - Special Edition (RHEM IV SE) expands the huge world of RHEM IV by two new unseen areas with many new puzzles and challenges. The additional goal is to find one quarter of a medaillion that you may need in the exploration of the upcoming RHEM V!

The game sets you into a huge, fantastic world full of strange vehicles and buildings, unknown mechanisms and machines, secret passages and doorways. Adventuresomeness, logic, attentivness and the ability to solve enigmas will help the player to slowly but surely unveil the mystery of this new adventure on Rhem. Everywhere on Rhem you can find hints and solutions that will help you to unveil some of the strange enigmas and puzzles in Rhem IV SE.

I am pretty sure that its not a coincidence that you need
to find one quarter of a medallion for Rhem V.
Guess where the other three quarters will be... ;-)

Yes, I understand that part, the point I am concerned about is...

Quote:
but you MUST obtain an item that will gain access to RHEM V.

Which seems to indicate that to have access to Rhem V you MUST play and complete the SE version of Rhem IV even though you have played and completed the original version..

I will be very surprised if Knut will handle it that way.
I dont think he will force players to buy Rhem I-IV SE just
to be able to play Rhem V
I am pretty sure you will be able to play Rhem V without having played Rhem I-IV SE.
The only downside would probably be that you will not recognize certain parts of
Rhem V as the parts that already existed in Rhem I-IV SE as the new, added parts there
and that might lead you to an inconsistend story regarding the star key and where to use it.
Besides the beginning of Rhem V might be confusing.
To clarify what i mean, just imagine the Rhem V intro starts at the point where you hand
Kales the four quarters you found. If you haven't played the SE versions, you would think
'well what is happening, the story doesn't make sense - i never found these quarters
the 4 times when i visited Rhem'
But of course, i am not certain, i am just guessing.

@MaG: I have played and completed the game now. IMO,
saying 'lots of new puzzles (15-17)' is not true at all.
I would say that - even when you count smaller things
as puzzles - there are 7 things you have to do that can be considered
as puzzles. IMO, 2 of them arent even real puzzles so there
are only 5 puzzles:

#################### SMALL SPOILER WARNING #####################

1. Accessing the new area is not a puzzle. You are just collection symbols
and entering them is so obvious it cannot be considered a
puzzle, even for less experienced gamers. No logic required.
2. Puzzle #1 to open the first red small door
3. Puzzle #2 and #3 to open the next two doors.
4. Puzzle #4 to access the telescope.
5. Puzzle #5 to get to the new area.
6. Puzzle #6 to find a key
7. Puzzle #7 to open the safe.

###############################################################

I still liked the additions though. It was fun to enter the
world of Rhem again :-)

Hmm, ok. You probably have a different understanding what steps should be
called a puzzle. You probably think that some of puzzles i mentioned can be divided
into sub-puzzles. Other than that, i have no idea how it can be 15-17 puzzles.
Anyway, i think the whole addition is quite short:
It only took me 3 hours to solve the new part and i wasn't even in a good form.
It was still fun, though. Man, i cant wait to play Rhem V. I wish there
were other puzzle games of similar quality, sigh.
