Being an old silver surfer , I thought that I would go back to my roots with the old favourite.
However, I am already in trouble. I pulled the switch in the pool and it open the trap above, but when I swam up., it would not let me in.---also, when I got to the alcoves where the silver key is, that alcove stayed dark so that I could not get it.
Any help please-- peter

There are a couple others in the walk through section "T" plus some cheat codes on this page - You just need to scroll down a bit to the area with the Tomb Raider I info.

A 'Boomer with more experience with the series will probably also have additional input.

There are two switches in that underwater area at opposite corners.
Maybe you need to pull both switches?
I think there is also another switch in one of the rooms you swim up into.

Thanks Jenny--- I have pulled 2 switches-- 1 in each corner--- I think you may be right about a third one but I can't find a reference to it in my walk through-- I will keep looking---regards--Peter

Hi Jenny -- I followed the walkthrough and got to the two alcoves where the gold idol and key are -- no problem with the idol but the other alcove was in complete darkness -- I was able to go in it nevertheless but no sign of the key -- I methodically went over every inch but no trace. perhaps there is a bug but I may have to ask for a "Save"--Regards - Peter

It's in this walkthrough. It states it is dark, so maybe it should be?

If you're where BrownEyedTigre is describing, you're further along than I thought you were.

Have you tried moving Lara around in the alcove and telling her to "pick up" even when you don't see the key? Maybe the key is there but invisible. Or maybe the hotspot just didn't load. Sometimes that happens when you are playing at a resolution other than what the game was made for. If you are playing widescreen, are you able to change to 4:3 aspect ratio?

You could also try picking up twice in the alcove with the idol, in case the key got displaced to over there.

It does sound like a bug if the key isn't spawning.
Make sure it didn't hop into your inventory without your picking it up.
It's possible that the key might spawn properly if you went back to the previous level, but I'm not sure if that would help.

Thanks again to you both for your further advice --- I have tried all that has been suggested but still to no avail -- the strange thing is that the alcove with the idol is brightly lit but the other is in darkness although I can still walk in it , and have methodically inched every part-- in the dark--- to try to pick up but with no result---it may be that it does not like windows 10 ---
I will try Jenny's suggestion to try to change the aspect but am not sure if I can do this -- I really think there is a bug and I will probably have to get a "save" from Stella---thanks again anyway and if I have any further luck I will let you know---regards -- peter

Without wishing to bore all those who offered me advice, I thought ,- out of courtesy , that I would let you know that I have solved the problem.
Simple really--- I started a new game and both the idol and key appeared in all their glory.
I now have to attempt again the daunting task of the underwater switches--- I must be mad-- many regards-- Peter
