It's the weekend part 2, and I'm feeling kinda tired and lazy......but......it's very cool this weekend, and rain is coming, so I will at least get out there and mow my yard. It's getting pretty deep. My little dog has to jump up and clear the grass to see where she is. lol

I think that's my first ever 'lazy but' statement. snicker

Have a happy day everyone. thumbsup

Joe, hope you don't have trouble cutting long wet grass! My lawnmower is impossible to use when it's like that, it gets clogged every couple feet. Enjoy your day!

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone! I'm going to my daughters for the afternoon.

So now more on the tail (tale) of Lazarus. I decided to name the lone kitten Lazarus because he keeps 'reappearing'. Mom, Mini-Me is not the best mother in the world. Too young for kittens I guess. 3 gone of the 4 and Lazarus is continually moved from one place to another at her whim. I have to follow her and listen for the meows.

So night before last, Mini-Me moved Lazarus somewhere from the cozy, safe, kitty bed under the feeding (round picnic table) on the deck. Food on top, cats under in the beds. Mini-Me and her 'husband' Gimpy each slept in their separate beds opposite each other on the chairs under the table. So that night I go out and no Mini-Me, no Lazarus, no Gimpy. Finally located all 3 of them around the corner, through the gate, under the Orchid Cactus huge overgrown patch (where many litters have gone before).

So I got used to that and then yesterday morning, Mini-Me was BACK under the feeding table and didn't seem to be going anywhere else. Sure enough, when I got a quick chance, there was Lazarus, back in, not HIS bed, but Gimpy's on the other side. Gimpy and the mom/son had switched. Dunno why.

All day, Mini-Me and Lazarus were happily in the bed, Gimpy guarding (proud daddy). BUT then near evening, when Penelope Peacock was roaming around (she also sometimes jumps on the feeding table to eat the cat's food) I see a flurry of Mini-Me and she has Lazarus in her mouth. This is no easy task because Lazarus is now pretty big and fat, and Mini-Me probably weighs about 2 lbs. Tiny little thing but healthy.

I see Mini-Me run towards the edge of the deck with Lazarus and Penelope giving chase. So I run out (nearly killing myself tripping over the doorsill) and find that Mini-Me had jumped back under the table and LEFT LAZARUS on the deck under the tent table with Penelope Peacock inches from him! Penelope is bobbing and weaving and poking her head under that table and I run in between her and Lazarus. Penelope is aggressive when she is after something so it's her against me and little Lazarus cowering against the house wall, going back and forth as well as a 3 1/2 week old kitten who has never been OUT before can.

I have two choices, stay where I am and try to get on my knees and REACH under the table to grab Lazarus, or try to scare Penelope away long enough to run inside, grab a 'grabber stick' and get Lazarus out from under the table without hurting myself. I chose intimidating Penelope and shooing her away till I could get to the HOSE nearby. No easy task, she's fast and determined.

I managed to get the hose, spray it in her direction, and she went running far enough away for me to run inside, get the grabber and come back to Lazarus. Took a few tries to get some skin on his neck in the grabber, but I finally dragged him out. Took a good look at him to see he was OK and then pushed him under the tablecloth, into the bed with Mini-Me. Was a great time since Mini-Me was growling at me, and Gimpy, the dad, was now in the other bed also hissing and growling. I'm surprised I didn't get scratched or bitten.

So that should have been the end of the story, but of course it wasn't. I watch until Penelope goes 'home' at promptly 7:35 pm. She has her own schedule. When she was gone, I went out to check on everyone. NOBODY in the beds, nothing around, except I spotted Gimpy through the gate in the side yard and heard meowing under the Orchid Cactus AGAIN. So Mini-Me had managed to take her little one to the safety of the cactus patch and there they stayed all night with Gimpy standing guard (and occasionally having 'relations' with Mini-Me. Dunno why he's after her again. Too soon for her to have another litter, but at least the noises of the happy couple let me know where they all were. I went out with a flashlight and shined it around the patch and saw Gimpy, at the 'entrance' guarding it against everyone, including me since he was growling nicely.

This morning, Mini-Me and Gimpy were there for breakfast, didn't see Lazarus, BUT I heard him in the Cactus patch so he's fine so far, and Mini-Me went there right after eating, and in between eating and drinking. Guess it's going to be another day of hunting down cats and kitten. I'm exhausted. No way to tame a wild cat. Mini-Me won't come near me no matter how hard I try. It will take months/years to tame her enough to grab her for neutering. I'm hoping Lazarus, if he survives, will be the joining factor and she will come closer to me if he does.

It's a never ending sage of feral cats at my house. This is now 37 years and I can't count how many there have been. They come, they go, some stay, some live to be 18 or 19, some not so lucky, but all of them are happy here. Once neutered/spayed, they stay, and the population seems to remain pretty constant with any 'outsiders' being run off by the 'alpha' male or female. Right now I count Ninja, Mini-Me, Digger (the other older female) Gimpy, Lazarus and an interloper I am calling Duplex (where I first saw him) as mine to care for. Duplex appears twice a day just to grab some food and then is gone. I'm fairly sure he actually lives down the block at the Duplex where I saw him months ago. So my count is 5 for me to take care of and then of course the possum babies (2 or 3) and occasionally a big possum and the raccoons when they are pregnant or bring over the babies for a month or two.

Quite a crowd, but they keep me busy. Here's hoping that little Lazarus lives up to his name and survives to adulthood. catrub

Mini-Me is never going to get the award for the best kitty mom of the year. All morning she had Lazarus under the Orchid Cactus and the just as my friend was going home after lunch, I saw her on the monitor jumping up to the chair to go under the feeding table. Then just as my friend went out the back gate, I heard one loud 'meow'. I ran out, and found Lazarus on the DECK under the table. Seems Mini-Me must have been jumping up with him in her mouth just as my friend went out and it scared her and she dropped Lazarus. Plop! I picked him up, opened his eyes again (they get glued shut) and put him in the bed with his mom. He immediately started to nurse, so she's not the worst mom, but it's so scary that she doesn't have the skills to take good care of her little one. I'm hoping he survives all this. He has weeks to go until he is able to see, run, avoid dangers on his own. I can see that mom isn't capable. I think the dad, Gimpy is taking better care than she is. Duh.
