Trying to light the fireplace paper goes out all the time. I have tried the fastest I could go and still wont light.Is there a trick to make this light. Tried for hours.Somebody help.

Wilbur needs fire and fireplace travel powder to use the Fireplace Travel Network.
Get the travel powder from Bloch's table after you divert him.
Use the dry boards taken from entrance hall stairs in the fireplace.
Put empty dry food package into the fireplace.
Get gas from carnivorous plant using bellows and use it on fire machine.
Use paper on fire machine to get fire.

Then ---- Take the lit strip in inventory and use it to light the prepared wood-paper in the fireplace. A fire is made.

You have to light the paper, walk a few steps towards the room, and light another piece of paper. walk a few steps out of the room and light another piece of paper. walk into the room and light another piece of paper. I think in all I lit about 5 pieces of paper. it is not so much being fast as just remembering to walk just a little bit and lighting another piece of paper.
