A while ago I had a question for Glitches in regard to my Nancy Drew games that would not install. The answer seemed to be that my system was not adequate so I put those aside. They are a two pack Legacy Games package and has Her Interactive sign next to that label. The games are The Deadly Device and Alibi in Ashes.

Since I could not resist trying again, I bought The Shattered Medallion. THIS one installed and I am happily playing it! This one has ONLY the Herr Interactive label.

My question is, does it make a difference who produces the game?
All of these games are for Windows XP/Vista/Windows7 & 8. (I have Windows 7 - but not a "gaming system")
So I am curious as to why Shattered Medallion is installed and playing but not the others?
I am thinking to try again to install the two I set aside...
unless there is some difference between the Legacy and Herr Interactive?
If so, this will make a difference what I buy in the future - given my limited system.
Thank you for your advice.

The earlier Nancy Drew games have special installation instructions for Vista/Windows 7 and higher; you can find the instructions here. These instructions would not apply to Deadly Device or Alibi in Ashes, though, as those games are more recent.

Even folks with Windows 10 are reporting that all of the games run, including the earlier ones with the above instructions. And being as The Shattered Medallion is working, it sounds like your computer would run all of the newer Nancy Drew games.

It's curious that the ones with the Legacy label aren't working. I can run all the games on my Windows 7 machine, but they are all the original Her Interactive versions (with the exception of a couple of older ones which say Dreamcatcher on them).

What happened when you tried to install the Nancy Drew games from the Legacy bundle?

Thanks for the link!
It is just this two pack from Legacy that won't install. First time I have had this problem with ND games. After the install runs for a bit it stalls. (sorry I forgot at what point...) but it gets a fair way into the installation and stops. I would have to try an installation to see exactly where it stalls and what the error message is.

I thought maybe if I bought the games in this two pack individually AND from Herr Interactive I might be able to install.
It's worth a try! Maybe.

I am hoping to play some of my older ND games too and that link is going to be a help since they are before my Windows 7.

Thanks again!

You are welcome. I think it's quite likely that you will be able to play both Alibi in Ashes and Deadly Device - just buy the Her Interactive version instead.

Maybe a techie could provide a solution to your stalled installation problem with the Legacy pack. Did you try closing down your antivirus before trying to install? That's one suggestion I could offer.

Someone on Amazon bought this 2-pack and said it stalled at 80% but finally completed installation after 45 minutes. That seems a long time but you might try and see if it works.

Thanks for that. I have heard of weird things like that before with installations, but I thought they were quite uncommon.

I remember having a problem installing one of the early Nancy Drews. It would stop during the process. I found the failed installation and deleted it and tried again and it worked. Maybe I just needed to wait it out. I never experienced that with any other game.

Thanks for all advice!
I bought the Her Interactive Shattered Medallion. It installed perfectly!!! I am playing it and in fact am now VERY stuck in the sub and have to go over to the games help for advice!
Seems as though this is a solution for my system - to buy the Her Interactive. I am very pleased that everything is running well!
Thanks so much everyone!
