I just went to GOG to look for a new game and saw Whispered Worlds for $1.99 and said boy-o-boy what a deal. I downloaded it but I can not get it to launch. Has anyone else had this problem? The flag with the British and American flag appears on screen and the tiny feet things appear to light up but when I click on either flag NOTHING. What step have I missed? I sent a email to GOG to trouble shoot but for less than two dollars I am tempted to just uninstall it and forget it.

Did it install properly?
When I downloaded it a few months ago, there were three files needed for installation:

setup_the_whispered_world_special_edition_2.0.0.6-1.bin (1.5 GB)
setup_the_whispered_world_special_edition_2.0.0.6-2.bin (131.2 MB)
setup_the_whispered_world_special_edition_2.0.0.6.exe (777.6 KB)

Does your video card meet the requirement?

I don't remember the exact steps when running the game for the first time after installation.

If GOG has "updated" their download to include Galaxy hooks, that could be causing a problem with starting the game.

I bought this game from GOG in the summer sale of 2014 and just got around to trying it. I had the same problem as you did. There isn't any discussion about this problem on the GOG forum, but there is a lot of people discussing it on the Steam forum. It appears that the mouse click must be very fast to be recognized. It does work, but I find myself lapsing back to a normal click speed and have to repeat clicks. I have the original disk version also, and it doesn't have this problem. I bought it again from GOG because it was dirt cheap, and I was willing to pay a little for a DRM-free copy, but it looks like if I ever play this game, I will probably revert to the old disk version, and settle for having to keep the disk in the drive.

Those flags are only to select the language, you actually start the game by clicking on the check mark below the flags. When you get into playing the game, it appears that the action menu can be opened with a normal click, but when you click on the eye, hand or talk icons, it has to be a fast click.

Thanks so much for the simple fix. I did a quick click on the check mark under the flags and the game started. I wish I could find a quick fix to Dire Grove Collectors Edition. I am glad that I still have my old Windows XP set up so I can replay what I consider a wonderful game, too bad it will not play on Windows 10.
