Since this is a technical problem, I have moved your post over to Glitches.

You don't "open" a saved game.
It's not an installer.
You copy it to the game's saved game folder, then open the game to access the save.

Someone else will have to tell you exactly where the saved game folder for RoonSehv is. It's probably in a subfolder of
C:\Users\your-username\AppData
but it may be buried within the name of the developer and the name of the game or the name of the game engine. Someone who has the game installed will have to tell you where to look.

EDIT...

According to this
http://roonsehv.blogspot.com/
Quote:

In order to operate the save system (which is dependent on the game directory), you cannot change the destination directory, the game will be installed in the following directory: C:\UDK\RoonSehv

Once installed, a new icon on your desktop! Have fun!

Edit: if you have a problem, with file miss or error after start the game, please install this redist file here: C:/UDK/RoonSehv/Binaries/Redist/UE3Redist.exe
For update your direct-X 9.0c and Visual Basic 2010

So saves may also be in a subfolder of
C:\UDK\RoonSehv\

Quote:
Downloaded the v3 saved file to desktop

Where did you download it from?
Did it come with any instructions?

If you already have a saved game for RoohSehv which you made yourself, try doing a search for the name of the save file, making sure to include hidden files and folders in your search. If the search finds more locations than the one with the newly downloaded save, that may be the saved game folder.

EDIT AGAIN...

I can't find any downloads for a RoonSehv v3 save file.
All I can find are downloads for v3 of the entire RoonSehv game.
Where did you download this save from?

If that is the one here
http://www.indiedb.com/games/roonsehv/downloads/roonsehv-v3-fr-eng-ger-ita
it is an installer for the complete game, not a saved game.

The file should have an .exe extension on the end.
Sometimes Internet Explorer strips off .exe extensions to "protect" you.

Rename the file to RoonSehv_v3_FR_ENG_GER_ITA-Setup.exe

You should be able to run the game installer then.

However it is not a saved game installer, it is an installer for version 3 of the whole game.

Not sure what you mean by "The Microsoft popped up with..." What version of Windows are you running. If it's Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, it will sometimes pop up something that says Windows has protected your PC or some such. Is there anything in that popup that says, "More into?" Click on it and there should be something that says Run Anyway or something like that.

the Microsoft messege/alert (red shield next to the file name in the download screen) says file cannot be verified...) if go ahead and click on file asks me what I want to open it with and gives me list of things: acrobat, windows media, etc. Nothing that says roonsehv or set up or run... I did add the .exe to the file name in the my downloads folder.
Supposedly this was the final version of the game. Maybe I should try to find version 2 someplace...but the link on developer page takes you to the independent games DB site and that version has been deleted Per that site (independent DB...) so don't know where to get it now.
what a mess. should not be this difficult...
would really like to play this and perhaps the next one as well but there's got to be something I am doing wrong.
win 7 64bit...have Norton and it's fine with it....
What should I try now?

Did you try what Jenny suggested in changing the extension to .exe if it's not there?

You might also contact the game developer to see if he can help.

yep, renemed it....(I thought---what a diff a comma instead or a period before exe makes! haha).
Well, blind in one eye and other going downhill too, I found had not typed the .exe correctly.
It is now running!
I notice it has a save game option on menu...had noticed in other info that game did not have that - that something else had to be downloaded. BUT as this is the last and final version of game maybe will not have to do that!
I saved just the tiny progress I made...got to something that looked like a sled...needed to rest eyes and get head wrapped around using mouse, wasd again. been years since did that! don't mind it...just hard to remember ins/outs of it.

This is apparently the ONLY version of the first game available for downloading and is supposed to be the Final Version of it (Neterra). From now on all the news will be of the New game they're working on..which continues on the series...
So Glad was able to get it running...THANK YOU BOOMERS!!

Thanks to all....just wanted to add that this version will save a game..However there are only 3 'slots'...of course you can overwrite.
Just the short time I played...cannot tell you how good it made me feel to have a game that so far seems to be a great exploration game-- along with some good puzzles. Really enjoy the artwork/graphics as well and the sound and music.
Again..much thanks to you all.

Enjoy! This is a great game... There is a long thread about it in the Game Hints forum if you get stuck!

Or more likely he still has the Windows default to hide known extensions, a dangerous practice.

Go to Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Folder Options

Click the "View" tab and uncheck the "Hide extensions for known files types.

It will now display your files' proper extensions.
