I also just found this comment about this puzzle while reading the Her Interactive forum: f you open and close the box about 10 times, something will happen that will make it easier to figure out. I honestly don't know what happens if you do this, but it might be worth checking out.

You're more welcome, Marian. I always do that when I play the game, it does make that puzzle much easier. In the same respect, when you play Curse of Blackmoor Manor, you can do this same trick when doing the puzzle above Jane's bedroom door to do a shortened version

I learned the trick with Blackmoor from UHS Hints, you have to backup from the door about ten times. Then the tiles be in almost the perfect order and you only have to move five to complete the puzzle
