Am I the only one having problems with my hotmail.com account? My mail is missing from June 19 until July 20. It is showing that I have no flagged email and I had a ton of it. Any ideas?

Hotmail is now known as Outlook.com although I believe it still allows you to use the old Hotmail name. I use and monitor four different Outloook.com email accounts and my mail is all there and intact. Have you checked other folders to see if it might have gotten sent to the incorrect folder?

"The Windows Live Mail 2012 application does not support the synchronization technologies used by the new Outl‍ook‍.‍com. When account upgrades begin at the end of June, you will no longer be able to receive email sent to your Out‍look‍.‍com account in the Windows Live Mail 2012 application. Rest assured, you can always access your email by logging into Out‍look‍.‍com from any web browser, and you will continue to have access to all your data that is currently in the Windows Live Mail 2012 application."

Would it have anything to do with the above statement which is an excerpt from an email I had received? Do you use Windows Live Mail 2012?

I don't remember for sure, but I don't think Terri uses WLM. But if she does, that could be it...

Draclvr - As far as I know, I don't use Windows Live Mail 2012 either but I received this email twice from MSN or Outlook or somebody saying I do. I truly don't understand the difference between Live Mail, MSN, Hotmail, Outlook.com, and Office Outlook, or understand what kind of mail you have if you don't have "web based" email. Makes my brain hurt!!

Anyway, yes, it was just a thought.

I think Microsoft contributes greatly to your very normal confusion. Not that you asked, but let me try!

And email client is a program that resides on your computer. You tie it to your ISP which will provide you an email address on their email server.

Outlook Express - Windows 98, Windows XP
Live Mail - gone after Vista
Windows Live Mail - still out there and I use it
Microsoft Office Outlook (a part of Microsoft Office)
Thunderbird from Mozilla

Web-based email is not resident on your computer, but is an email address tied to a website such as Google and is not tied to your ISP email server. That's not quite right, but close enough.

Gmail
Hotmail - the ancient old original web-based email account which was eliminated and became...
Outlook.com
MSN is sort of MSN Hotmail

Not very good explanations and probably only adds to the confusion!

It makes me feel a bit crazy too, oldbroad! You have plenty of company.

I contacted MS yesterday and went into a lot of detail as to what was going on with my email account. I was told they would call back today and was given case(?) number. Sure enough I got a call a short time ago, Asian guy, wanted remote access, did that, then got a bit leary, number came in as Microsoft 1-425-635-2970, just checked it and they answer as MS but looked it up online and it says it's a scam. Shut down pc, any suggestions as what to do?

Ok, update, Microsoft called back, same guy, suggesting we got cut off and apparently wanted to go through the same routine again. I told him the number is coming up as a "Scam", so he told me to contact support and gave me another case #. It seems that number is considered a scam but also legit, I am confused. So, got on my other pc and changed my bank account password. So, that's where I am now.

Definitely sounds like a scam, scam, scam. Where did you get the number you called from? I had a elderly friend do the same thing - called a number and let them have remote access to her computer. Took me two days to clean it up.

What I would suggest is posting on one of the legitimate Microsoft user forums and see if anyone has any suggestions. Did you read oldbroad's suggestion?

Or do on-line support through your account maybe?

I contacted MS Customer support yesterday online. She scheduled a callback for today and gave me a service request number. He called today and gave me the service number and after allowing him to access my pc remotely I got a little concerned and shut it down. The number that I posted here is the number that came in on my caller ID. I called the number a little later and it says Microsoft. However since it shows either Spam or MS when I googled the number I decided to change my P/W for my banking and for my MSN access. However I just noticed on the email she sent me for verification it shows 1-800-Microsoft/Microsoft Answer Desk. I find it difficult to believe this is a coincidence.

I'm used to getting Spam calls from Microsoft and have started telling them they must have the wrong number, that I don't own a computer. The guy is always Asian just like this guy. No, I haven' read Oldbroad's suggestion but will look at it.
Thanks

**I found this along with other posts but still they differ, some say yes it's Microsoft and others say no Scam.

**This is one of the generic trunk numbers that outgoing Microsoft support calls go through. If you have ANY request open with Microsoft support, this would be one of the numbers via which they respond.

I always get nervous when I have to contact them and they take over my computer but sometimes it has to be done if you want their help. I especially hate when they put me on hold forever while they have control of my computer and when they are looking around at everything in there.

Good luck Terri. I hope you get it straightened out soon.

Thanks oldbroad, it makes me nervous also. I did see the guy looking around in my PC but suddenly I got scared and shut it down. Perhaps if I hadn't had so many scam calls from MS, I wouldn't have paniced. Between the Microsoft calls and the IRS messages, I'm ready to pull the plug on the phone. wave

My rule of thumb is if you must have someone look at your computer, NEVER allow access by someone you don't know. If it's that bad, take it to a reputable computer repair shop. Terri, did you ever respond to oldbroad's suggestion way up at the top?

I wish I had a computer repair shop to go to. I don't know where to take my computers for repair. Can't find any place around me.

I went into the support/help forum for Microsoft and posted. Today I got a private message from the Microsoft Community and as soon as I figure out how to get into the correct area again I'm going to read it. lol I'll keep ya posted.
