AL LUBEL

Hard work pays off in the end, but laziness pays off now.

```````````````````
Brand New Technology
To commemorate his first visit to our library, I gave a six-year-old boy a bookmark. More familiar with electronic gadgets than old-school tools, he had no clue how it worked. So I demonstrated by placing it between two pages, then closing the book. "When you start reading again, voilà!" I said, opening the book to my bookmarked page.
"Wow!" he said. "That’s cool!"
`````````````````````````````

What Boys Want

"Boys just like one thing," my ten-year-old told a friend. Oh, no, the end of her innocence, I thought. Then she announced her finding: "PlayStations."

``````````````````````````
Changing Voice
My sister explained to my nephew how his voice would eventually change as he grew up. Tyler was exuberant at the prospect. "Cool!" he said. "I hope I get a German accent."
`````````````````````````

Crisp Cookies

While I was making a huge batch of snickerdoodle cookies, I asked my ten-year-old to read the recipe and ingredients off the box to me, doubling them as he went along. He did as he was told. His first instruction: "Preheat the oven to 700 degrees."

````````````````````
Eat Well
Forget about Halloween. If you’re really eager to frighten the kids, just read them these headlines. "TV ads boost eating of obese children"
``````````````````````

On Paper

When he received a journal as a gift, my eight-year-old son was mystified. "Mom, what am I supposed to do with this? The pages are blank."

"You write down interesting stuff that happens to you," I said.

"So it’s like a blog … on paper."

````````````````````````
Retired
When my ex-Marine father-in-law was at my house, our six-year-old neighbor came by to play with my kids.
I asked her if she knew who he was. She looked up at him with her big blue eyes and said, "I don’t remember what his name is, but I know he used to be a submarine."
``````````````````````

Like New

I love making clothes for my five-year-old granddaughter. And she, in turn, always seems happy to accept them. The other day, I asked if she would like me to make her a skirt.

"Yes," she said. "But this time, could you make it look like it came from a store?"

````````````````````````
Innocent Question
Up on the screen at our local multiplex, the star whispered to his female costar, "I want you to be my mistress."
"What’s a mistress?" my eight-year-old granddaughter yelled out.
Then the man gave the woman a passionate kiss.
"Never mind," my granddaughter said.
````````````````````````

Concerned Owner

The 6 a.m. regulars at the dog run are, not surprisingly, a pet-oriented group. Recently John started discussing his trip. "The flight was awful! We were delayed for a few hours, and when we finally boarded, the baby behind me didn’t stop crying for the whole flight."

Another dog run regular turned to him in surprise: "What did the owner do?"

``````````````````````````
Like a Rolling Stone
At my ten-year-old’s request, I loaded my Rolling Stones tunes onto his iPod.
"I had no idea you liked the Stones," I said.
"Sure. I like all that old-fashioned music," he said.
"What do you mean, ‘old-fashioned music’?"
"You know," he said defensively. "Music from the 1900s."
```````````````````````

Army Girl

"Daddy," said my 11-year-old daughter, "I think I want to join the Army."

"Baby," I answered, "I think the Air Force would be a better option for you."

"But I don’t want to be a pilot."

"You don’t have to be a pilot," I told her. "There are other jobs in the Air Force."

Her answer: "I don’t want to be a flight attendant either."

``````````````````````````
Learning to Drive
Every morning, I do a mad dash to drop off my son Tyler at day care so I can get to work on time. My impatience hit home one morning when he piped up from the back of the car, "Our car is really fast and everyone else’s is slow because they’re all idiots, right, Mom?"
```````````````````````````

Good morning everyboomie. welcome

I'm getting bored though. I'm going to have to find me a special purpose. headscratch

Maybe since I spend so much time on my back, I'll get some paint, and repaint the ceiling. idea

Good Morning Joe and everyone. Joe thank goodness your air is fixed! It sounds like it's to hot to do anything! How about a good book to read? Coffee and tea as well as iced tea are ready as usual.
Wishing everyone a happy day! summer

Good morning all!

Joe, so happy you are up and running again. yay

Gerry, what are you watching now that the Tour is over?

Connie, I always enjoy stopping in places for karaoke night. I only sang once, but I enjoy listening to those who can sing great and those who had enough alcohol to think they can. lol

Midgie, hope work goes by smoothly.

Gail, what are you playing?

Good morning everybody. wave2

I went to the park early this morning, and everybody and their dogs was there. snicker

My dogs have to stop and smell every pile or puddle left by the other dogs. lol

I guess everyone wanted to beat the heat this morning. yes

I went earlier only because I got a travel mug at Walmart so I could take my coffee with me. grin

It really seems like a Saturday to me. Maybe I'm just ready for a day off. shocked

I think I need to get up and do some house cleaning. blech

Ana I know without a doubt the more beer I drink, the better I can sing. I think it's the lubricating effect beer has on my throat. thumbsup

Terrific Tuesday ya'll puppy

Soot is on the road to NE to help MIL out for a bit. This means that I had to help son give Miss Spryte (cat) her meds. The liquid was easy, but she spit her pill back at me about 20 times. She won't take treats so can't give it to her that way. While I don't hesitate to poke pills down my dogs, I hesitate to stick my fingers into her mouth as she won't hesitate to bite and cat bites hurt. I need that thing the dentist has to keep your jaw open.

Then I went to bed and binged on the Great British Baking Show....just discovered it a few weeks ago and love it! The first season has a 17 year old who is amazing, though my favorite is the builder. She must have gone to some kind of cooking school. Wish we had that sort of training in schools here.

Daughter had a sleep study last night. Can't wait to hear how that went.

Joe, you could make your own masterpiece on the ceiling. Would be fun!

Gerry, what are you reading?

Connie, cheer well hamster

Midgy, have a great day. How are the grafts doing?

Gail, have fun and when you done with it, send the rain this way please.

Ana, wavegirl

Dogs are reminding me they have not yet been fed. Must attend to that ASAP. lab

Well, Joe, I guess I can blame you for ME thinking it was Saturday today. I'm all mixed up on days. Finally figured it was only Tuesday, but I think I crammed an entire week into Monday's fiasco with the newly immigrated son of my Tenants. Ugh. Not looking forward to another 'give and take' session with him. Now I'm beginning to wonder if he can be 'dangerous'. You never know people. Anger can do funny things. I'm hoping he will have settled down and realize that I own this place, I set the 'rules' and if he doesn't want to comply, I can dispense of him or his entire family. What a mess. I hate confrontations. Not sure why he's pleading poverty to me when I know he came here after 27 years of planning this and now he's trying to get everything free? Just can't figure this one out as to why he would chance making the 'landlord' angry. Guess he just had a bad hair day? duh

L4L the grafts are healing nicely. I almost look normal. My plastic surgeon suggested putting on the scar some ointment. I think I'll try that next time I see him. He gave me a shot right in the skin graft--a steroid--to help shrink it. It's still a little swollen. I think I'll post a picture when I feel the time is right.

Thanks for asking L4L. You have a great memory, wow.

Hey everybody. wave2

Sorta I hate confrontations too, but I don't like able bodied people who think the world owes them a living. shame

Well my AC has petered out again today. I walked on my treadmill, and then took a shower, and I didn't notice that it quit working until about 6:15. sad

I've turned the compressor off to see if it is frozen up. It may have just overheated. duh

Hoping it will work when I turn it back on.

How is everyone else's day going? smile

My day is good. Went to Albertson's to try to find some G mills cereal boxes with the PETS toys inside. NONE. Went back to Wally Mart where I bought the first one and found that they were now pretty well stocked. Managed to buy 4 boxes and got 3 different 'pets'. Cute little things. I can't help myself. I've always collected cereal toys and other goodies. does anyone remember 'charms' that came in the gum machines?? You put in a penny and got a gumball and some little tiny trinkets. My sister and I collected thousands of them. Not kidding. We would trade them back and forth. Loads of fun stuff like whistles, a plastic fly, tiny toy guns, animals, glowing (florescent) light bulbs that were either green or blue glowing. We charged them up at night and played with them under the covers. So many of them. I still have all of mine. I keep them in an old glass 'battry jar' that was meant for cars I think. Fun stuff. I will get older...but I'll never grow up. joy

Sorta, glad you were able to find your toys! I wonder what those would be worth to a collector?

I'm heading up. Sweet dreams all sleep

Well isn't that special. My air conditioner has gone out completely. shocked

No compressor. No fan. It's 85 degrees in here. rolleyes

I just got back from Walmart with a high velocity stand fan to put by my bed. smirk

I should have bought a window unit. The sad thing is that I had a window unit out in my storage not being used, but I gave it to my neighbors across the street because I new they needed another one, and because I didn't need it. duh

Tomorrow I'll call that company and have them come back out and look at it again. They'll probably tell me I need a whole new unit. cry

Such is life. I'll live. grin
