Howdy DOoooooooo, Y'all!
Ok! I've finally put Dark Fall away (sigh...)
and started to play Shivers. Man, what a wacky game this is! So many puzzles! Anyway, I'm trying to change the clocktower clock to read 5:30 ... It looks like the first 2 chains move the hour in 5 hlour increments but I just can't get the minute (chains 3,4) to work right I keep getting off by 5 minutes in either directions. Any ideas???

All i can say is "Muck" around with the chains.. You'll get it smile

Quote:
The first chain moves the clock foward five hours, the second reverses the first. The third chain moves the clock ahead 35 minutes, the fourth reverses the third. The professor's notes speak predominately of two times, 5:30 and 3:15. Set the clock to 5:30.

yes indeedeedoodaday! I thought it was all over.
'cos I hadn't been saving anything. (the walkthrough at Boomer's says that you need some sort of book (...and of course...I don't have one), but I found a really good WT by JTForst...
has some really good references in it. How far am I? No clue. I've been outside, in the basement underground lake. Found the ghosts of the Professer and Beth,The office (found a talisman here), The Library, the hall with all those wierd doors behind the Library.
3 elevators, the Professors bedroom, a workroom, an animal room, a plant room (got the matching pot for the bull talisman here)a theatre (loved the door puzzle for that one) another door with a word puzzle on it that looked like something that was written on one of the elevators) went through there up the stairs to a clock tower.

Inferno,

Have you captured any of the ghosts that are attacking you, yet? That's your main quest in this game? Look at the bottom of the screen where the pots with the ghosts are supposed to be. There ten of them. Once you have captured all ten. Game over! Good luck! wave

Take your time with this game. It's a ton of fun!

The clock-chains aren't really random (though once you start experimenting with them they are!)

It's a drudgery, but to figure them out, you need to pull one chain once, then examine the clock again to see the effect. Repeat the process until you understand the operation of the chains, then you can predict the motion of the clock accurately enough to set it.

Thanks guys!
Geez Louise, Polo! Is that what that thing is for??? I've got the eyeball now.. And one pot with the bull on top (for ASH) but it's still on the far left circle. I went to where I though that demon would be (the fireplace in the office...plently of ashes there but when I clicked the pot on it nothing happens..I guess the demon escaped and went elsewhere. I've got to search this baby out and find another pile of ashes, is my guess. I'm afraid to pick up any more pots and lids (although I've found many)
until I grab the first one. Guess it's still too early in the game, huh?

Inferno,

Listen closely to the music in this game. It will be a lot of help to you when it comes to capturing the Ixupi. There will be the normal room music whenever you enter it. But.........when you get close to being near another Ixupi, the music will change. Listen, you'll get the hang of the game, soon. wave

Hi Inferno,

Find a book in the library, South American Pictographs. It will identify which Ixupi belongs in which pot according to the symbol on the side.

You should have found the Hieroglyphics book early in the game. It was with the professor's body just before you boarded the boat for your fateful trip. If you missed it, it's worthwhile going back for it. On the other hand, maybe you can get that info from your WT.

You guys are just the "Bee's Knees"! What a great suggestion to play this game! Gameboomers Rules!

With all the info in the Library...well, the gist of the whole story is pretty much right there. So far, I've only captured 1(The ASH). But I've found quite a few of the pots and lids. I'm working on The WOOD Ixupi right now, have the right pot and lid.
I think I've explored pretty much all of the main floor...Funny thing though,(you know me...so nosy and curious......)I keep getting sidetracked just exploring it all. I've managed to score 207,900 points so far (Geez Louise, how many can you score in this game?)

Only been upstairs 3 times though:
1.) The clock tower ;I figured out that as long as you get the clock to sound the alarm, you get the pot.

2.) The Professors Bedroom ...is there something in that suit of armour?

3.) Man's Inhumanity to Man Room (tried to find the ASH in that box with the skeleton...no luck, though.).....that lil' stinker went back into the fireplace! Caught his lil' patutti as well! Yippeee!

These ghosts move around. These game is soooo neat. Thanks for all the help...I'm going back "ta chetch me somemore thar' ghostie gohlies".
Later Y'all!

Let's just say that in the bedroom the suit of armor is where the metal Ixupi likes to hang out once in a while! wink So......when you're up there again, go close to the suit of armor. When you hear the warning music step back if you don't have the right lid and jar. At least you'll have found another hiding spot for the Ixupi.

Another neat thing, when you start a new game, the pots and lids are placed in different areas of the musuem. So it is pretty replayable. The puzzles stay the same though. Watch out for the chinese checkers puzzle in the funeral exhibit room. That's one nasty puzzle! mad

Just wanted to add that if you see green sparks starting to form from within something you can either stay there to watch what happens or you can back off immediately. Those green sparks tell you that an Ixupi is about to attack.

Hi Inferno,

You're sounding like you're getting into the spirit of things (pun intended). I have the spoiler for that dreaded marble puzzle; won't post it till you ask, though.

Have you noticed yet that the elevator puzzle gets harder each time you use it. Look around for secret passages which let you bypass the main elevator. You're stuck with using the other two (the one you came in on and the one to the bedroom); there's no other way for those.

Inferno,

Are you telling me you've already solved that Chinese Checkers puzzle? It's the one where you have to end up leaving one ball in the middle in order to get another pot or lid.

I don't remember any other place where there is water. There's the fountain and then there's the toilet. You're just gonna have to keep going back and forth I guess.

HINT: The only Ixupi that you MUST leave for last is the lightning Ixupi. You'll understand why later when you come to the endgame sequence. Other than that, have fun! wave wave wave

Edit: You shouldn't have to go to the underground lake for the rest of the game! wink

Save the water for the very last! You must do everything else first.

I actually had one of those when I was a kid - a white plastic board with red pegs. So I pretty much knew how to solve it before I began. The only hard part is planning it so you wind up with the final peg in the center.

In addition to the music changing and the green sparks, there is a sound effect associated with each looming spirit. The chandelier jingles, the water gurgles, the metal clanks, the wood creaks, etc. You can only get attacked when standing on the exact node, so one step away takes you to safety.

Yeah, there are people that actually like slider puzzles, too. I never solved the 32-peg solitaire version that "Chinese Checkers" was based on; I wasn't about to mess with the marbles -- I hollered for help when I first saw that one.

As for chasing down Ixupi, I often had better luck just sitting and waiting for them to return. If the water Ixupi wasn't in the fountain when I came looking for him, I backed off to the next room. Then I came right back to check again. The background music lets you know if he's there or not. If not, try the same thing again. It doesn't always work but I figure the odds are just as good as at his other hiding places.

You Guys are the best! I was up until 2AM last night playing around. My score is now somewhere in the 400,000 area. I've just gotten the CLOTH, EARTH, and FLAMING WATER Ixcupii (Sorry, Tally-Ho ...but CLOTH and FLAMING WATER bit me so I had to get'em....I'm afraid I have an "inflamed" temper when I get bitten. laugh )I'm after METAL now just keep going between the Bronze unicorn and the Suit of armour,(yeah...I noticed the indentifying sound effect right from the start so no worries there)but can't find it yet. What about the Deuos (sp?) in the Subbtereanean World,in the maze? (neato keen maze by the way,
very mappable, even found a short cut back to the Main Hall from the River.)Isn;t he made out of metal???
I've completed every puzzle I can find. Chinese
Checkers really didn't bother me all that much...(that's what lil' sisters are for wink LOL. That pinball was alot of fun only took me 3hours to complete it. My favorite one is still the Alchemy puzzle....reminded me of a puzzle in MYST 3.
Well just got home from the A/P (.... now there's a scary adventure all in itself!) have to make dinner .....than it's back to Shivers!
See Ya!

Inferno,

There's another hiding place for the metal Ixupi. Go back up to the theater projection room. Those metal cans with film in them sometimes hide the baddie, too.

Have fun!!!!!!

The metal film cans are true, and you are right about the robot-thing in the subterranean area. Metal could be in any of those places.

Sorry about the water - I must be mixed up. I do remember there is one that is forced to be last.

All this talk of Shivers has inspired me to play it again. After Dark Fall, that is.
