I have been attempting to get my URU game to run on Win 8.1. Originally, it ran on, on my then, new computer - Oct. 2015 or thereabouts. About two months later, it no longer was working. Draclvr mentioned the Secdrv.sys issue and I have disabled it. The computer now seems to "play" the game, but not in a useful way. The screen is almost all black after I select the play button. Shortly thereafter, it becomes all black, but the soundtrack continues to play, but in a somewhat warped, repetitive style. I heard there maybe a couple of others things I should try, I don't know what these might be. Would anyone have suggestions? Thanks in advance. My computer is a Laptop with an Intel 5500 HD Graphics chipset and an i5 cpu.

Which version of Uru do you have?
There was more than one disc version.


You'd have had to either enable the secdrv.sys driver or use a NoCD. If you got a NoCD for a different version of the game, it won't work properly.

Your symptoms sound like either trigger functions (DRM deliberately messing up the game because it mistakenly detects the game as an illegal version) or a wrong version problem (which might be the problem if you used a NoCD).

Intel HD graphics is not the best for running games. But since the game used to run OK, the problem is probably related to DRM.

Not only do you get everything in the original Myst Uru game plus To D'Ni and Path of the Shell, you get some additional Ages that weren't in any disc version. The online game also runs better with newer computers.

Jenny100, Thank you for your feedback. I may have either misstated or done it wrong with regard to enabling/disabling. I will check on this! My disc are all store bought, so it must be me or my machine. I will definitely look into the online version as well. I will repost after I run a few checks on the information you have given.
