Hi Techs-just a couple of questions for you - I may want to add more RAM in the future and when I do a Crucial Scan I have the following advice *Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory." Belarc Advisor states I have the following: Channel A: DIMM0 8192 MB, DIMM1 is empty, Channel B: DIMM0 is empty, DIMM1 is empty.

I always thought that memory has to be installed in pairs and why have I got 3 empty slots if I can't exceed supported memory. Just curious for now. Thanks for any advice. wave

No, RAM does not have to be installed in pairs. I often install a single stick of RAM to allow for future expansion. Do you get any options to install new memory with the Crucial scan? What is the RAM capacity of your motherboard? What operating system are you running?

You've probably already posted some of this in the past, but my "RAM" doesn't always work very well!

It's not absolutely necessary to install RAM in pairs.
It may be a little faster, but maybe not so you'd notice.

Assuming your motherboard can take more than 8GB of RAM, you could get a matching 8192 MB stick of RAM for a total 16GB.

Look up how much RAM your motherboard can take.

"Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory" doesn't mean 8GB is all your motherboard can support. You have to look that up in your motherboard specs.

Thank you Jenny and Draclvr-my motherboard is a GA-H81M-S2V. I checked the specs and can go up to 16GB. While I was on the site noticed there are up to date drivers. Is it necessary to have the latest please?. smile

What site were you on? The Gigabyte website? If so, it would be good to update the MB drivers. Sometimes the drivers shipped with a computer are older ones. When I do a build, the first thing I do after installing the MB drivers what come with the board is go to the website and update them.
