I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

````````````````````
3 Resume Killers
Looking for a job? Try to avoid these résumé bombs, collected from bemused hiring managers:
Candidate specified that his availability was limited because Friday, Saturday, and Sunday was "drinking time."
Candidate explained an arrest by stating, "We stole a pig, but it was a really small pig."
Advertising is a tough business. Which may be why one prospective adman wrote a cover letter boasting, "I am getting to my goal, slowly but surly."
````````````````````

Work Workout

After my daily jog to work, I found a colleague standing outside our building, puffing on a cigarette. Seeing that I was sweaty and out of breath, she became concerned. "Just how far away did you park?"

````````````
On Friends and Countrymen
Conversation at our business lunch turned to illegal immigration. “I read an article that said 60 percent of Americans are immigrants,” commented one of my colleagues. “That can’t be true,” another said.
“No,” agreed a Native American co-worker. “There’s a lot more of you than that.”
```````````````````````

Crazy Stories for Skipping Work

We know you’d never do it, but some people concoct crazy stories for skipping work. Here are a few, collected by hiring managers:

Employee didn’t want to lose his parking space in front of his house.

Employee said he had a heart attack that morning but that he was "all better now."

Employee’s dog was stressed-out after family reunion.

Employee contracted mono after kissing a mailroom intern at the company holiday party.

```````````````
Long Detour
When I phoned my employee to find out why she hadn’t come to the office, I expected to hear a sob story about how sick she was, blah, blah, blah. Instead, her excuse was pretty plausible.
"When I was driving to work, I took a wrong turn," she explained. "And then I just decided to keep going."
````````````````

Giving Away Your Age
How not to become a member of senior management:

During a meeting, our bosses held a contest to name a new project. As members of the management team read through the entries, our CEO picked one out and asked, "Who knows what a phoenix is?"

A junior manager answered, "It’s a bird in Harry Potter."

``````````````````
Job Perks
"’That’s a great place to work!" shouted my 16-year-old brother after coming home from the first day at his first job. "I get two weeks’ paid vacation."
"I’m so glad," said my mother.
"Yeah," added John. "I can’t wait to find out where they send me."
```````````````

Post Holiday Blues

A waitress at our restaurant had a change of clothes stolen from the break room. Making matters worse, she"d planned on wearing them to the Christmas party.
As a brand-new employee, I didn’t know any of this backstory, so I was a bit surprised to find this indignant note posted on the community board: "It has been two weeks since the Christmas party, and I still have not found my clothes."

```````````````````
Not to be Used
The brave new memo about the company’s revised travel policy read as follows: We were no longer allowed to buy cheap tickets via the Internet. Instead, we were required to use the more expensive company travel department. Furthermore, to show how much money we were saving, we were asked to comparison-shop for fares—on the Internet.
I thought the typo in the last line of the memo summed it up best: "The new process is ineffective today."
````````````````

Closer Than Ever

One Saturday night my boss and her family came to our house to play cards. As they were driving away at the end of the evening, I discovered that she had left her purse in a corner next to the dining-room hutch. I was about to call her house, intending to leave a message on the answering machine, when my son reminded me that they had a cell phone.

As I dialed the number, I marveled at the technology that would alert them before they had driven all the way home. A few seconds later the purse began to ring.

```````````````````````
Good morning everyboomie. welcome
I had the same problem too. Then I ignored it and finally got good but several short sleeps during the night. Now they're longer. smile
Good morning everyone, have a Great Monday. Our fridge in the utility room died yesterday. We will be looking for a replacement when Robert gets home from work. It was about 30 years old. I guess it was time for it to retire. Danish, BB Pancakes, and Bacon Sandwiches in the NC. fall
Good morning everybody. wave2
Well alrighty then. Up at 5:20 this morning........early morning................early EARLY morning. shocked
I decided I wanted to get up and have my coffee, all 3 cups, before I go to the park. yes
I'm taking my dogs, plus Missy's brother Beau, who lives across the street. Beau is cute as hell. He's a puggie little chocolate Chihuahua, while Missy is like a bean pole. She's tall for a Chihuahua. They both run around at about 30 miles an hour, they're so funny. lab
So I'll take them all to the park, and maybe their miniature collie Manny too. He's 10 years old, but Baby fancies him. puppy
It's a beautiful morning, but we're headed back up to 92 or 93 today. blech
Have a great day everyone. thumbsup
Joe, another suggestion is to start cutting back on your caffeine. Believe it or not, you get more energy during the day and sleep better with less waking up. You just have to cut back slowly so you don't get bad headaches and withdrawal symptoms. I went from all day caffeine drinking to a cup and a half in the morning and a Water Joe at noonish. That's it. It helped me a lot!
Have a happy day all! I have a long long list of things to do today so not too much time for anything fun. Hope you all have a happy day!
Magnificent Monday ya'll puppy
Week 3 of trying to get a correct remote control from Brighthouse. Since I've patiently waited 2 weeks for it to come in the mail and it didn't, they are sending someone by today. We shall see if he a) comes, and b) has the correct remote. The last guy came but had the wrong remote in the truck. They then said they'd send me one and it would be here in 3 days lol
Other than that, I'll be making bread and cooking books.
Joe, love the quote. Hope you had a blast at the park.
MaG wavegirl
Thanks for the coffee, Gerry.
Connie, happy shopping. Hope you find the perfect one and you didn't loose much.
Gail, happy erranding!
Ana, what is a Water Joe? luck getting it all done!
Overcast here. Looking a lot like Fall is coming, but they are predicting HOT weather again this week. We can never tell what it's going to be. Hot, cold, dry, humid. We don't have 'seasons' just different temperatures but they all seem to meld into one. fall think
L4L, it's just water with pharmaceutical caffeine. http://waterjoe.com/
In the spring/fall/winter I have my pu erh tea, but in the summer I prefer water so I drink water joe instead. And its more portable since I'm out more.
joe , i'm sure that miniature collie is really a shetland sheepdog in disguise lol
have you looked into the sleep hygiene tips yet ?
well , i woke up at 5:30 then rolled over and shut my eyes thinking i'd get
up at 6......but i fell asleep and didn't wake up until 9 ! eek
so now i'm running really late . sigh.
we seem to have an abundance of rattlesnakes moving around here this year -
must have something to do with the weather and temperatures. have to watch
out going to the laundry room or checking on my neighbor. not fun.
off to get something accomplished - see you all later !
have a wonderful day , everyone ! wave2
Wow, niteowl, be careful. You need a pig....they kill rattlers, don't they?
Welcome home, Space wave
Cable guy came hamster but didn't think he had the right remote...said they weren't making them anymore sad and had switched because the one I wanted broke too easily. But then he rooted around in his truck and came up with one joy
Off to shape the bread lab
Edit: Bed time has arrived. Gonna go to sleep and see if I can conquer the cough. Sweet dreams all sleep
