Walking outside the other day I noticed a change in the weather, a crispness in the air, and with that noticing came the thought - it's almost time for a new Nancy Drew adventure smile

Then I sadly reminded myself that there is no release date for the long awaited Midnight in Salem. My biological gaming rhythms don't like to be thrown off this way. I have gone on an adventure with Nancy every fall since the beginning... what am I going to do this fall??? I may have to go back to an old game and hope it feels new. What are you all playing this fall?

Hi Chesnut. I have to agree--I feel the same way. SIGH Plus, it would have been perfect to have the Midnight in Salem game come out around Halloween, darn it. frown

I guess we'll have to find other stuff to enjoy til it comes out. I've been replaying Morrowind lately, and with a bunch of new mods, it's almost like a "new" game for me. smile

I feel the same way - I am waiting and waiting and waiting for Midnight in Salem. The last character art is supposed to be revealed tomorrow for the game; after that, if Her Interactive says nothing for a period of time, my hopes of seeing it this year will be fading fast and gone for good. On Twitter in April, they said the game would be coming out later this year, but maybe that has changed now.

The only other game I am interested in is Blackenrock (The Last Crown). If that doesn't come out between now and December, I will be replaying...my Nancy Drew games.

Here's an interesting tidbit: in October, the company that makes the Miss Clue games is going to be releasing a game called "Trials in Salem." Yep, involving the Salem Witch Trials. And it's been confirmed that at least one former Her Interactive employee is now working for them. Hard to believe, but nevertheless true. You can check it out here. (You will need to scroll down the page a bit.) This definitely (for me at least) falls under the category of, "Things That Make You Go Hmmmmm." Unreal...

I too used to look forward to the new Nancy's releases. Not going to lie though, they lost their spark for me. Especially after getting rid of Lani as the voice.

I'm finishing The Room 2 and then going to start Obduction.

I literally just came from the Virtual Family Kingdom where you can play the first game in the Miss Clue games for free. I tell you, it's like a Nancy clone with different voice actors... it's definitely very rough around the edges still but it was a first attempt. I am going to check out the October release for sure. So glad to have found this for now.

Why not play an older Nancy Drew game?

Yes it's going to be some stranger talking instead of the real Nancy. I can't say I'm looking forward to it at all.

Ana, I looked up Obduction and couldn't believe my eyes...from the makers of Myst, one of my favorite games. I got excited until I read the specs needed to play. Ouch. I am no where close to 8 gb of ram suggested. I hope I'm not going to have the same issue with Syberia 3 when it comes out in December. Have a great time in whatever land you travel to in Obduction.

I may end up doing that, but I did always enjoy having a new adventure.
I am not happy about Lani not voicing for Nancy anymore either, but I still plan on giving the game a fair play.... if it ever gets released

That's the way I feel, chesnut - not happy at all with the change in Nancy voice, but willing to give it a try. The company still has the same game designer and I am hopeful that it will still be a good game. It won't be the same, though, without Lani.

Chesnut, have you played any of the Miss Clue games?

Yes, they are adventure games, albeit quite lightweight, based on what I've read. I hadn't heard of them either, until I saw Michael Gray (who does the video walkthroughs for Nancy Drew games) put up video walkthroughs of the Miss Clue games. You can take a look at one of them here.

I was initially interested in Miss Clue -- until I heard the conversations. Unless there is an option for text-only with no speech, I wouldn't be interested.

I used to really enjoy the Nancy Drew games but once the "chores" started to escalate I started to lose interest.
There seemed to be more chores than detection at times rolleyes

Yes, there were a few games that had a lot of chores. Many of them, though, have few to none. It sounds like you just happened to hit on the ones that were chore-heavy. I certainly wouldn't want that in all ND games. wave

I looked at the list of Nancy releases, Marian, and I've played 20 of them - but very few of the most recent ones grin

Yes, the most recent ones aren't chore-based, at least as far as I recall. I think the worst offender for chores was White Wolf of Icicle Creek. smile

I don't think the games with chores were limited to any specific year. And I don't know that everyone would agree on what constitutes a "chore." Making beds sure, but what about when the chore is made into a sort of puzzle, like filling bento box orders? I thought making the cake in Shadow Ranch was a chore, but someone else might have enjoyed it. And worst of all were the games you had to play with the monkeys in Ransom of Seven Ships. I don't think those were meant to be a "chore" but they certainly felt like one.

Good points, Jenny. It's possible that what one person deems to be a chore, another person finds it to be a puzzle. The word "chore," in and of itself, is somewhat subjective, depending on what a person likes and dislikes.

Oh...my...goodness. This is now turning into a Nancy Drew soap opera.

This has been posted on the Miss Clue website:

Quote:
We are proud to announce that Lani Minella will be joining the Miss Clue team for upcoming adventures, beginning with the "Trials of Salem." In the "Trials of Salem," Lani Minella will star as the voice of Caroline Darcy, the mother of Jane Darcy.

In the all new Miss Clue Regency adventure scheduled for release in February of 2017, Lani Minella will be featured as the daughter of Lord Cavendish, the young friend and confidante of Jane, as they unravel a mystery which takes them from Pemberley to Amsterdam!

Watch the Miss Clue homepage for our exciting interview with Lani Minella coming up soon!

I never saw this one coming.

That's interesting.
It might be worth checking out if they get Lani and some other good voice actors.
